How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Toolmaker

    Location: West Birmingham
    Hours: Full-time, Permanent, Days
    Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience

A well-established manufacturing business is looking for an experienced Toolmaker to join its engineering team.

This is a varied, hands-on position involving the manufacture, maintenance and improvement of tooling used within a busy production environment. The role will suit someone who enjoys practical engineering, problem-solving and working closely with production and engineering colleagues.

    The Role

    * Manufacture, modify, repair and maintain press tooling, forming tools, jigs and fixtures.

    * Work from engineering drawings and specifications to produce accurate tooling.

    * Carry out precision fitting, assembly and bench work.

    * Identify and resolve tooling and production issues.

    * Support tooling trials and the introduction of new or modified tooling.

    * Work closely with production, engineering and machining teams to improve tooling performance.

    * Make modifications and improvements to existing tooling to improve reliability, quality and production efficiency.

    * Ensure tooling is maintained to a high standard and is suitable for the production environment.

    * Contribute practical engineering knowledge to tooling and manufacturing improvements.

    About You

We're looking for a skilled, hands-on Toolmaker with a background in precision engineering or a similar manufacturing environment.

    Ideally, you'll have:

    * Relevant toolmaking or engineering apprenticeship/qualification, or equivalent practical experience.

    * Strong experience in toolmaking and precision fitting.

    * Experience working with press tools, forming tools, jigs or fixtures.

    * Good understanding of engineering drawings, tolerances and fits.

    * Manual machining experience.

    * Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills.

    * The ability to work accurately with minimal supervision.

    * A practical understanding of manufacturing processes and how tooling performs in a production environment.

Experience with CNC machining or other conventional machine shop equipment would be advantageous.

You don't need to have experience with every type of tooling. We're particularly interested in someone with strong core toolmaking skills, sound engineering judgement and a practical approach to solving problems.

    The Opportunity

This is a good opportunity for an experienced Toolmaker looking for a varied role within an established manufacturing environment.

You'll be involved in new and existing tooling, modifications, repairs and manufacturing improvements, working alongside experienced engineering and production teams.

If you're a Toolmaker who enjoys hands-on engineering and wants a role where your practical knowledge is valued, we'd be interested in hearing from you
