Salary: Competitive, depending on experience
Hours: 40 hours per week
Job Type: Full-time, Permanent
About the Role
We are recruiting for an experienced MAGMASOFT Engineer / Casting Simulation Engineer to join the Technical team within an established foundry and manufacturing business.
The role will focus on using MAGMASOFT/MAGMA5 to simulate and optimise casting processes, helping to improve casting quality, increase yield and reduce defects and scrap.
You will work closely with the Pattern Shop, Foundry Engineering, Sand, Melting and Quality teams, translating simulation results into practical tooling and process improvements.
Key Responsibilities
* Build, run and interpret MAGMASOFT/MAGMA5 simulations covering mould filling, solidification, shrinkage and thermal behaviour
* Analyse simulation results to identify potential casting defects, including shrinkage, cold shuts, misruns, hot tears and inclusions
* Design and optimise gating, feeding and risering systems
* Support new product introduction and casting feasibility studies
* Provide technical input into quotations and new business opportunities
* Work with Pattern Shop and Engineering teams to implement simulation-led tooling and design improvements
* Liaise with customers' design engineers regarding casting design and manufacturability
* Validate simulation results against trial castings, X-ray/CT results and production data
* Maintain and develop MAGMASOFT material and process databases
* Produce technical reports and communicate findings to engineering, production and customer teams
* Support initiatives focused on yield improvement, scrap reduction and right-first-time production
* Keep up to date with casting simulation technology and best practice
About You
The ideal candidate will have practical experience using MAGMASOFT/MAGMA5 or similar casting simulation software, combined with a strong understanding of foundry and casting processes.
You should have experience with gating, feeding and risering design, casting defect analysis and engineering problem-solving.
A background in ductile or grey iron casting would be particularly advantageous.
Requirements
* Practical experience with MAGMASOFT/MAGMA5 or equivalent simulation software such as ProCAST, SOLIDCast or FLOW-3D Cast
* Foundry/casting industry experience
* Understanding of casting processes and defect analysis
* Experience with gating, feeding and risering design
* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
* CAD experience, ideally SolidWorks, AutoCAD or Inventor
* Strong attention to detail and methodical approach
* Good communication skills with the ability to explain technical information clearly
* Ability to work collaboratively across engineering, production and technical teams
* Degree/HND in Materials Science, Metallurgy, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or similar is desirable, although equivalent experience will be considered
What's on Offer
* Competitive salary based on experience
* Full-time, permanent position
* 40-hour working week
* Technical role with significant influence over casting quality and process development
* Opportunity to work with MAGMASOFT and advanced casting simulation
* Long-term career opportunity within an established foundry environment
If you're an experienced Casting Simulation or MAGMASOFT Engineer looking for an opportunity to make a direct impact on casting quality, yield and process development, we'd like to hear from you. Apply today with your CV for immediate consideration
