How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Mechanical Fitter

    Salary: £35,000 per annum + overtime paid at £20 per hour
    Location: Stourbridge, West Midlands
    Working hours: Both day shifts & night shifts available

    About the Role

    We are looking for an experienced and motivated Mechanical Fitter to join our engineering team at a busy manufacturing and foundry operation in Stourbridge.

    The successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining the reliability, safety and performance of plant, machinery and associated equipment across two manufacturing facilities. Working within a heavy engineering and foundry environment, you will carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM), reactive maintenance, fault finding, repairs and minor improvement works to minimise downtime and optimise production performance.

    Foundry experience is desirable, although candidates with strong mechanical engineering and maintenance experience from other heavy industrial or manufacturing environments are encouraged to apply.

    This is a hands-on role suited to someone who is reliable, self-motivated, practical and organised, with the ability to work independently and as part of a wider engineering team.

    Key Responsibilities

    * Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM), reactive maintenance and corrective maintenance on mechanical plant and equipment.

    * Diagnose faults quickly and effectively to minimise production downtime.

    * Install, inspect, maintain, repair and modify mechanical systems, machinery and components.

    * Maintain and repair foundry machinery and associated services, including mechanical transmissions, hydraulic and pneumatic systems.

    * Carry out routine inspections, lubrication schedules and safety-related machinery checks.

    * Identify worn, damaged or defective components and arrange or carry out repairs and replacements.

    * Undertake mechanical repairs, fabrication and minor improvement works as required.

    * Where competent, undertake manual machining using equipment such as lathes and vertical/horizontal milling machines.

    * Work alongside electrical and mechanical engineering colleagues to complete maintenance activities efficiently.

    Health & Safety Responsibilities

    Safety is a fundamental part of the role. You will be expected to:

    * Work safely at all times and wear the correct PPE.

    * Ensure machinery and equipment are maintained and operated to safe standards.

    * Identify and report unsafe conditions, practices or defective equipment immediately.

    * Comply with company health and safety, environmental and quality procedures.

    * Participate in risk assessments, COSHH assessments and other relevant H&S activities.

    * Follow permit-to-work procedures for non-routine activities.

    * Follow manual handling, lifting and equipment safety procedures.

    * Assist with safety meetings and safety observations when required.

    * Work with management and H&S personnel to improve workplace safety and environmental compliance.

    The Person

    * Experience installing, inspecting, repairing and maintaining mechanical systems and equipment.

    * Experience with hydraulic and pneumatic equipment.

    * Experience working with mechanical transmissions and industrial machinery.

    * Ability to carry out planned and reactive maintenance.

    * Experience with mechanical repair, fitting and assembly.

    Desirable Skills & Qualifications

    The following would be advantageous but are not essential:

    * Experience working within a foundry or heavy engineering environment.

    * Siemens S7 knowledge.

    * Welding and fabrication experience.

    * Forklift licence.

    * Crane, lifting and slinging experience.

    * MEWP licence
