How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    CNC Vertical Borer & Lathe Operator

    Location: Halesowen
    Salary: £14.37 per hour + shift allowance
    Hours: Monday to Friday, rotating double shifts

    * 6:00am – 2:00pm

    * 2:00pm – 10:00pm

    * Early finish on Friday

    The Role

    We are currently looking for an experienced CNC Vertical Borer & Lathe Operator to join an established engineering and manufacturing environment.

    The ideal candidate will have strong experience in CNC programming, setting and operating, with programming ability being particularly important for this position.

    You will be machining large shafts and components, working to tight tolerances and using steady rests. This is a skilled machining role requiring a high level of accuracy, attention to detail and experience working with large-scale components.

    Key Responsibilities

    * Programming, setting and operating CNC lathes and vertical borers.

    * Machining large shafts and components to precise specifications.

    * Working to tight engineering tolerances.

    * Using steady rests when machining large and/or long components.

    * Reading and interpreting engineering drawings.

    * Carrying out dimensional checks and quality inspections.

    * Ensuring work is completed safely, accurately and efficiently.

    * Maintaining high standards of quality throughout the machining process.

    About You

    The successful candidate will have:

    * A minimum of 2 years' experience working on lathes.

    * Proven CNC machine operating experience.

    * Strong CNC programming experience, particularly programming from drawings/specifications.

    * Experience machining large shafts or similar large components.

    * Experience using steady rests.

    * The ability to consistently work to tight tolerances.

    * Good understanding of engineering drawings, measurements and inspection.

    * A strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.

    * The flexibility to work rotating shifts.

    Pay & Hours

    * £14.37 per hour

    * Shift allowance equivalent to an additional 8.75 hours per week

    * Monday to Friday
