How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Bridge Manager – Major Structures

    Location: Bristol / South West
Salary: Up to £80,000 + Company Car / Car Allowance
    Employment Type: Permanent
Working Pattern: Minimum 3 days per week site/office based

    The Opportunity
TXM Recruit is supporting a leading infrastructure organisation with the appointment of a Bridge Manager to take responsibility for the inspection, maintenance and operational management of a major strategic highway structure in the South West.
This is a senior position combining structures-based asset management, technical engineering knowledge and operational leadership.
You'll become the key technical and operational point of contact for the asset, leading a multidisciplinary team responsible for structural inspections, planned and reactive maintenance, renewals and ongoing asset performance.

You'll need the engineering credibility to understand structural defects, inspection findings, risk and proposed solutions, but your primary responsibility will be leading the operation – ensuring the right engineers, contractors, resources and stakeholders come together to deliver work safely and effectively.

    The Role

    You'll be responsible for:
Leading structural inspection, maintenance, repair and renewal activities
Providing technical and operational leadership across a complex major structure
Interpreting inspection findings, structural defects and associated engineering risks
Managing and developing a multidisciplinary inspection and operations team
Coordinating planned, reactive and time-critical engineering works
Overseeing workbanks, programmes, access arrangements and resources
Managing specialist contractors and the wider engineering supply chain
Supporting structural renewal schemes through design and construction
Ensuring effective integration between inspection, maintenance, construction and operational activities
Managing programme, cost, risk, safety and contractual performance
Ensuring compliance with CDM and Principal Contractor responsibilities
Driving operational efficiency, productivity and value for money
Working closely with the client, local authorities and other senior stakeholders
Supporting incident response and coordinating urgent engineering repairs
Ensuring works are delivered safely while minimising disruption to the travelling public
    What We're Looking For
We're looking for someone who combines strong technical knowledge of bridges / large structures with genuine operational leadership experience.

    You'll ideally bring:

Significant experience working with bridges or complex civil engineering structures
Structures-based asset management, inspection and maintenance experience
Strong understanding of structural defects, inspections and engineering risk
Experience delivering maintenance, repair or renewal programmes
Leadership of multidisciplinary engineering and operational teams
    Strong client and stakeholder-management skills
Experience managing specialist contractors and supply chains
Knowledge of CDM and Principal Contractor responsibilities
    Experience working with NEC contracts
Understanding of programme, cost, risk, commercial and safety management
Experience operating in live, safety-critical infrastructure environments
Ability to make sound decisions in high-risk and time-critical situations
Chartered or Incorporated status within Civil or Structural Engineering would be highly desirable, although candidates actively progressing towards professional registration will also be considered.
Relevant backgrounds could include highways, rail, local authorities, engineering consultancies, specialist bridge inspection organisations or major infrastructure contractors.
Experience across bridge inspections, structural examinations, monitoring, asset management, bridge maintenance or Principal Engineer-level responsibilities could all translate well.

    What's on Offer?

    Salary up to £80,000
    Company Car / Car Allowance
    Generous pension
Minimum 24 days' annual leave plus bank holidays
Option to purchase additional annual leave
    Flexible benefits
    Training and professional development
    Leadership development opportunities
Opportunity to take ownership of a nationally significant structural asset
Technically varied programme of inspection, maintenance and renewal work
    Interested?

If you're an experienced Bridge, Structures or Asset Management professional looking to move into a broader operational leadership position, I'd be interested in speaking with you.
