How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

Workshop Technician - Agricultural / Plant / Vehicle Engineering

    York

    £27,580 + Monday-Friday + 50 Days Holiday + Excellent Pension + No Weekends + Training & Development + Free Parking + Excellent Benefits*

Are you an experienced Vehicle Technician, Agricultural Engineer, Plant Fitter or Mechanic looking to step away from the pressures of industry into a days-based role offering an exceptional work-life balance?

Do you want to use the engineering experience you've built throughout your career in a less physically demanding environment, working Monday to Friday with no weekends and significantly more time off?

This organisation is a specialist technical and land-based education provider with outstanding practical facilities covering engineering, agriculture, plant and motor vehicles. They have a strong track record of developing their technical staff internally and offer an environment where experienced engineers can use their knowledge in a completely different way while continuing to work around machinery and vehicles.

In this role, you'll work within a well-equipped engineering workshop maintaining, repairing and preparing a varied range of agricultural machinery, plant and motor vehicles. You'll ensure equipment is safe and ready for practical training, support lecturers with workshop resources and occasionally help students with practical tasks. This is a Workshop Technician position rather than a teaching role, so you won't be expected to stand in front of a classroom or already have teaching experience.

The ideal candidate will come from an Agricultural, Plant, Horticultural, Automotive or similar mechanical engineering background and have significant hands-on experience maintaining and repairing vehicles or machinery. A Level 3 engineering qualification is preferred; however, experienced Level 2 qualified engineers will also be considered, particularly where this is backed up by substantial industry experience. A full driving licence is required.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced engineer looking for a long-term career move where salary is no longer the biggest priority and quality of life is. You'll get away from demanding industry hours and spend your working week in a well-equipped workshop, while benefiting from Monday-to-Friday hours, no weekends, an excellent Local Government pension and an exceptional holiday allowance.

    The Role:
*Maintain, repair and prepare agricultural machinery, plant and motor vehicles
*Maintain workshop equipment, tools and practical training resources
*Ensure vehicles and equipment are safe and ready for student use
*Support lecturers with practical workshop activities and resources
*Assist students with practical engineering tasks when required
*Help maintain a safe, organised and professional workshop
*Varied work across agricultural, plant and motor vehicle equipment
    *37-hour working week
    *Monday-Friday, days based
    *No regular weekend working
    The Person:
*Agricultural Engineer, Plant Fitter, Vehicle Technician, Mechanic or similar
*Experience maintaining and repairing vehicles, machinery or engineering equipment
*Agricultural, plant or horticultural experience particularly advantageous
*Motor vehicle backgrounds also strongly considered
    *Level 3 Engineering qualification preferred
*Level 2 considered with strong industry experience
*No teaching qualification or previous education experience required
*Looking for a more stable and less physically demanding career
    *Full UK driving licence
