How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    AWS Platform Engineer

When registering to this job board you will be redirected to the online application form. Please ensure that this is completed in full in order that your application can be reviewed.

Join Microlise as an AWS Platform Engineer on a 12-month fixed term contract and help build the cloud platform that will power the next generation of analytics, AI and digital services.

This is a rare opportunity to shape a strategic AWS platform from the ground up, establishing the engineering foundations, automation, security controls and operational standards that future teams will build upon.

Working within our Platform Engineering team, you'll design and implement reusable AWS capabilities that enable engineers across Microlise to deploy securely, operate confidently and innovate at scale.

If you're passionate about platform engineering, Infrastructure as Code, cloud automation and creating exceptional developer experiences, we'd love to hear from you.

    What will you be doing?

Build the foundations for our AWS future

Microlise is making a significant investment in its next-generation cloud platform, creating the foundations for advanced analytics, AI-driven products, data services and future digital innovation. This platform will become a strategic capability used across the wider Microlise organisation, influencing how future AWS workloads are built, operated and secured

The platform you build won’t just support one application or project. You’ll help create reusable capabilities, standards and deployment patterns that can be adopted across future AWS workloads.

Start by building the platform teams will use

Your first focus will be helping establish the production-ready AWS foundations needed by our Analytics and AI programme, while creating reusable platform capabilities for future workloads.

Build and automate AWS infrastructure using Terraform and Infrastructure as Code

Establish reusable infrastructure modules, deployment patterns and engineering guardrails

Build and improve CI/CD pipelines for infrastructure and platform services

Implement AWS security controls, IAM patterns, secrets management and secure networking

Establish monitoring, logging, alerting and operational observability across the platform

Implement tagging, cost visibility, budgets and FinOps controls to help teams understand and manage cloud consumption

Work closely with architecture, security, data engineering and development teams to create a platform that is secure, reliable and straightforward to consume

Build, shape and scale a modern AWS platform

You’ll be part of the team turning our AWS strategy and architecture into a working, production-ready engineering platform.

Design, build and operate secure, resilient AWS infrastructure and shared platform services

Develop reusable modules and automation that allow teams to provision infrastructure consistently

Build deployment pipelines and automated controls that make infrastructure changes safe, repeatable and auditable

Implement cloud networking patterns including VPCs, routing, DNS, security groups and connectivity between AWS and existing environments

Embed security by design, including least-privilege access, encryption, secrets management, vulnerability management and policy enforcement

Build platform observability using metrics, logs, traces, dashboards and automated alerting

Establish backup, recovery, resilience and operational readiness patterns

Implement cloud cost management through tagging standards, budgets, monitoring, optimisation and FinOps practices

Support multi-account and multi-environment AWS architectures with appropriate governance and controls

Create platform documentation, engineering standards and reusable patterns that make it easier for development teams to adopt AWS

Collaborate closely with Architecture, Security, Data Engineering, AI Engineering and application teams to continually improve the developer experience

Create a platform that accelerates engineering

This role isn't just about keeping infrastructure running.

We want to create a platform that allows engineering teams to move faster without compromising security, reliability or cost control.

You'll help establish the paved roads that enable teams to deploy workloads without needing to reinvent infrastructure, networking, monitoring or security for every project.

    What are we looking for?

Bring the skills to build cloud platforms

We’re looking for someone who combines strong AWS engineering experience with automation, ownership and a practical understanding of running cloud platforms in production.

Strong hands-on experience building and operating infrastructure on AWS

Strong Infrastructure as Code experience, including reusable modules and automated deployment

Good understanding of AWS networking, including VPCs, subnets, routing, DNS, security groups and hybrid connectivity

Strong understanding of AWS IAM, security controls, encryption, secrets management and least-privilege access

Experience implementing cloud monitoring, logging, alerting and observability

Experience working with multi-account AWS environments, governance and environment separation

Comfortable scripting and automating using Python, Bash, PowerShell or similar

Good understanding of cloud resilience, backup, disaster recovery and operational support

A collaborative, ownership-led mindset and the confidence to work with engineers, architects, security teams and other technical stakeholders

Experience with AWS Control Tower, AWS Organizations, CloudTrail, CloudWatch, Config, Systems Manager, IAM Identity Centre, Security Hub, GuardDuty or similar AWS platform services would be highly valuable.

Familiarity with FinOps, AWS cost management, tagging strategies, policy-as-code, developer platforms, platform engineering or Site Reliability Engineering practices would also help you succeed.

Help define how AWS engineering works at Microlise

You'll have the opportunity to help shape our engineering standards, automation, tooling and ways of working as the AWS platform develops.

We’re looking for engineers who enjoy that environment: people who can take an architectural direction, turn it into working engineering capability and leave behind something that is automated, documented and easier for the next team to use.

Don't worry if you don't tick every box – we're keen to hear from candidates who are eager to learn and develop!
