How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities

Research & Usability Delivery: Plan, scope, and deliver human factors and usability activities across the complete project lifecycle-from proposal and study design through fieldwork, analysis, reporting, and presentation.
Methodology Selection: Select and apply appropriate methods including contextual inquiry, ethnographic research, interviews, formative and validation usability studies, task/heuristic analysis, expert reviews, co-creation workshops, and journey mapping.
Fieldwork & Moderation: Moderate research/usability sessions and facilitate workshops in the UK and internationally, adapting approaches to different participants, cultures, products, and project contexts.
Analysis & Translation: Analyse and synthesise qualitative and usability evidence into actionable insights, design requirements, risk controls, opportunity areas, and strategic recommendations.
Deliverable Production: Produce clear, accurate, and engaging deliverables, including study protocols, research plans, technical reports, and client presentations.
Project Leadership: Lead or contribute to multi-disciplinary project teams. Manage project scope, schedules, budgets, resources, quality, and risks in line with agreed client expectations.
Client Relationship Building: Build trusted relationships throughout project delivery, resolve issues early, and help generate new and repeat business through high-quality consulting.
Commercial & Service Development: Collaborate with business development and marketing colleagues to shape proposals, estimates, and campaigns. Contribute to the evolution of internal human sciences capabilities and regulatory awareness.

    Essential Requirements

Applied Experience: Practical experience applying human-centred research, human factors, ergonomics, usability, or user-centred design methods in commercial, consultancy, academic, or other applied settings.
Fieldwork & Analysis Skills: Proven ability to plan and deliver qualitative research or usability activities, including participant-facing fieldwork, synthesis, and analysis.
Healthcare / Medical Device Domain Knowledge: Experience in healthcare or medical device development, including applying relevant human factors regulatory expectations across one or more markets.
Analytical Judgement: Strong capability to turn complex evidence into clear, actionable recommendations for products, services, or business strategy.
Communication & Documentation: Excellent written, verbal, and visual presentation skills, with experience preparing high-quality study protocols, technical reports, and client presentations.
Client & Team Management: Confidence working directly with clients and collaborating effectively with researchers, designers, engineers, and commercial leads.
Self-Management: Strong organizational skills to balance priorities and deliver high-quality work across concurrent projects, deadlines, and budgets.
International Mobility: Practical ability and willingness to undertake international travel when required by project scope.

    Desirable Skills & Qualifications

Experience working in a consultancy or client-facing environment
Experience of complex, multi-site, or international research/usability programmes.
Experience with drug-delivery devices or safety-critical products, including use-related risk management (hazard identification, use-FMEA, use-related risk analysis, residual-risk evaluation).
Experience designing and evaluating instructions for use (IFU), quick-reference guides, or training materials.
Capability in information/visual design to make complex findings accessible and persuasive.
A degree or postgraduate qualification in Human Factors, Ergonomics, Psychology, Anthropology, Product Design, Usability Engineering, or a related discipline (equivalent applied experience will be fully considered; Chartered status or progress toward it is welcome).
