How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    C++ / QT Software Engineer (SC Cleared)
    12 Months initial contract
    On site in Bristol 5 Days per week
    £481 Pay per day (Inside IR35)

    Overview
    My client, in the defence sector are looking for an experienced C++ / Qt Software Engineer to join a team developing software solutions for the next generation of Air Defence Systems.

    You will be responsible for developing a new software Console product to replace an existing system. This is a full redevelopment rather than an upgrade, with the aim of delivering a more maintainable, robust and verifiable software architecture.

    Key Responsibilities
    Design and develop a new software Console application using C++ and Qt.
    Work across the full software development lifecycle, from requirements through to automated verification and delivery.
    Develop software that meets high standards of reliability, safety and performance.
    Produce effective technical documentation throughout the development process.
    Work collaboratively with other engineering teams and stakeholders to ensure successful system integration.
    Identify and introduce new tools, techniques and approaches to improve development efficiency and sustainability.

    Essential Experience
    Strong software engineering background, including understanding of software realisation and wider system impact.
    Strong commercial experience with C++ and Qt.
    Experience working across the full software development lifecycle.
    Experience working with requirements, development, verification and supporting documentation.
    Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a wider engineering environment.
    Experience developing software within safety-critical, regulated or highly dependable environments.
    Active SC clearance.

    Desirable Experience
    Experience with DDS.
    Experience developing multi-threaded applications.
    Experience with Ada or other programming languages.
    Knowledge of safety-critical standards such as Def Stan 00-55, DO-178C or IEC 61508.
    Experience with restricted coding standards such as MISRA C++.
    Experience introducing new development tools, techniques or processes.
