How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Make a difference through education

    Are you an experienced Quality, Teaching & Learning or Education professional looking for a role where you can make a genuine difference?

    We are looking for a Quality & Teaching and Learning Manager to join the education team at HMP Brixton.

    This is a key leadership position within the prison education provision, responsible for driving quality improvement, supporting teaching excellence and ensuring learners receive a high-quality educational experience.

    You’ll work closely with teaching and support teams to improve standards across the department, with a particular focus on teaching, learning, assessment, Functional Skills, learner engagement and inclusion.

    The role

    As Quality & Teaching and Learning Manager, you will:

    * Lead and drive the quality cycle across the education department.

    * Champion high standards in teaching, learning and assessment.

    * Plan and lead lesson observations, learning walks and thematic deep dives.

    * Provide coaching and support to teachers to improve their teaching practice.

    * Develop and monitor teaching and learning action plans.

    * Coordinate CPD in response to quality findings and identified development needs.

    * Support preparation for and implementation of actions arising from Ofsted inspections.

    * Provide quality assurance across teaching, neurodiversity and reading provision.

    * Monitor and coordinate IQA and EQA activity.

    * Support effective provision for learners with neurodiverse and inclusion needs.

    * Work alongside Neurodiversity and Reading Specialists to ensure appropriate screening, intervention and support.

    * Lead on learner engagement strategies and monitor their effectiveness.

    * Induct and mentor new teaching staff.

    * Maintain accurate quality records and reporting.

    Essential Qualifications

    * Degree or equivalent qualification.

    * Recognised teaching qualification, such as QTLS, or an appropriate teaching qualification.

    * Assessor/Verifier qualification or relevant experience.

    * English or Maths expertise/specialism at Level 3 or above.

    * Evidence of a Grade 1 lesson observation within the last 12 months.

    Essential Experience

    You will have:

    * Proven experience of coaching and supporting teachers to improve their teaching practice.

    * A strong track record in quality improvement, with evidence of raising teaching, learning and assessment standards.

    * Experience of working within a custodial, prison education or community setting.

    * Experience of quality assurance within an education or training environment.

    * Experience planning and delivering lesson observations, learning walks and/or deep dives.

    * Experience developing and monitoring quality improvement action plans.

    * Experience supporting preparation for or working through Ofsted inspections.

    * Experience working with Functional Skills provision.

    * Experience coordinating or undertaking IQA/EQA activity.

    * Experience supporting staff development through coaching, mentoring and CPD.

    * Strong knowledge of current Further Education and Functional Skills initiatives.

    Desirable Qualifications

    The following would be advantageous:

    IQA qualification.

    Additional qualifications relating to neurodiversity, inclusion or learning support.

    Specialist qualification in English, Maths or Functional Skills.

    Qualifications or training relating to reading intervention.

    Management or leadership qualification.

    Desirable Experience

    We would particularly welcome candidates with:

    Previous experience within prison education or a custodial environment.

    Experience of neurodiversity and reading specialist provision.

    Experience using That Reading Thing or similar reading intervention programmes.

    Experience line managing Neurodiversity Specialists, Reading Specialists or Inclusion Support Coordinators.

    Experience leading thematic deep dives and learning walks.

    Experience developing and delivering CPD based on quality assurance findings.
