How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Quantity Surveyor / Estimator

    Salary: £35,000 – £50,000 depending on experience
    Location: Glasgow
    Job Type: Permanent, Full-Time
    Sector: Specialist Construction / Refurbishment

    GS3 Recruitment is working with an established specialist contractor based in Glasgow, with a strong reputation for delivering refurbishment, repair and specialist construction projects across Scotland.

    Due to continued growth, they are looking to appoint a Quantity Surveyor / Estimator to join their commercial team.

    This is a varied role combining estimating and quantity surveying, giving you involvement from initial tender through to commercial management and final account.

    They are also open to considering a more junior candidate with the right construction background, attitude and potential. Full support and development will be available for someone looking to progress their career.

    About the Role

    Working closely with the commercial and operational teams, you will be involved in pricing new opportunities as well as managing the commercial elements of live projects.

    The role will involve a combination of office and site-based work, with responsibility across multiple projects and the opportunity to develop your commercial experience.

    Key Responsibilities

    *

    Preparing tenders and estimates from enquiry through to submission

    *

    Reviewing drawings, specifications and tender information

    *

    Producing material and labour take-offs

    *

    Obtaining and analysing subcontractor and supplier quotations

    *

    Carrying out site measures and preparing valuations

    *

    Preparing applications for payment and interim valuations

    *

    Pricing and agreeing variations

    *

    Placing subcontractor orders and managing accounts

    *

    Monitoring project costs, progress and commercial performance

    *

    Identifying commercial risks and opportunities

    *

    Supporting contract administration and final accounts

    *

    Building effective relationships with clients, consultants and subcontractors

    About You

    The ideal candidate will have experience within quantity surveying, estimating or commercial construction, with the ability to work across both pre-contract and post-contract activities.

    Experience in refurbishment, repair, fit-out or specialist construction would be advantageous.

    You should be commercially aware, organised and confident communicating with a range of stakeholders.

    For a more experienced Quantity Surveyor / Estimator, the role offers autonomy and responsibility from the outset.

    For a more junior candidate, the business is happy to provide training, support and progression to develop your commercial career.

    Essential Experience

    *

    Construction estimating and/or quantity surveying experience

    *

    Experience producing valuations and applications for payment

    *

    Understanding of variations and cost management

    *

    Ability to undertake site measures

    *

    Good understanding of construction costs and commercial processes

    *

    Strong communication and organisational skills

    Desirable

    *

    HNC/HND or degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction or a related discipline

    *

    Experience within refurbishment or specialist construction

    *

    Experience using estimating or commercial software

    *

    Working towards a professional qualification or interest in further development
