How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    We are currently recruiting for a Workshop Engineer to join a skilled engineering team based in Knowsley.

    This is a hands on workshop position. The role will involve diagnosing faults, carrying out repairs, servicing, testing and calibration of specialist equipment, that is supporting installation and commissioning work by Field Technicians.

    The position would suit a mechanically skilled engineer with electrical knowledge, whether you are at the beginning of your engineering career and looking for a company that will provide training, or an experienced, proven time served engineer looking for a varied workshop based role.

    Salary: Up to £30,000 -£38,000 per annum (dependent on experience), Hours: 38 hours per week; Monday–Thursday 07:50–16:20, Friday 07:50–14:20.

    Workshop Engineer Key Responsibilities:

    * Carry out diagnostics, fault finding, repairs, servicing and calibration of specialist equipment within a workshop environment.

    * Diagnose faults across mechanical, electrical, electronic and pneumatic equipment.

    * Carry out component level repairs and replacement of faulty parts where required.

    * Complete functional testing and checks on repaired or assembled equipment before it is returned to service.

    * Carry out routine maintenance and adjustments to ensure equipment operates accurately and reliably.

    * Undertake occasional site visits.

    * Use a range of specialist test and diagnostic equipment.

    * Complete accurate job sheets, test records and maintenance documentation.

    * Work closely with engineers and technical colleagues to complete workshop and customer requirements.

    * Support ongoing engineering projects and improvements.

    * Maintain a clean, organised and safe workshop environment.

    * Follow company procedures, risk assessments and Health and Safety requirements.

    Workshop Engineer Requirements:

    * A mechanical engineering background is essential, with good electrical knowledge and an interest in developing your practical engineering skills.

    * Applications from engineers with a BTEC, NVQ, HNC, HND or equivalent engineering qualification, as well as candidates who have developed their skills through proven time served engineering experience.

    * This role can suit an engineer at the early stages of their career, where full training and development will be provided, or a skilled and experienced engineer looking for a new challenge.

    * Previous experience in a workshop, engineering, maintenance or technical environment would be beneficial.

    * Experience of diagnostics, fault finding, repair, servicing or testing of specialist equipment.

    * Comfortable working with mechanical, electrical, electronic pneumatic and analytical systems.

    * A practical, hands on approach to engineering with good problem solving ability.

    * Strong attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality work.

    * Willingness to learn and develop technical skills, with training available for the right candidate.

    * Able to work independently and as part of a wider engineering team.

    * Good communication and organisational skills.

    * Willingness to undertake occasional client site visits.
