How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

Cambridge, hybrid working; to £80k+ DoE with top benefits

This role will suit a principal software developer with expertise guiding and contributing directly to cloud software development with AWS or Azure. The data-oriented platform and pipeline at hand is central to a suite of applications with a positive impact on global sustainability, and this is a prominent role with responsibility and reward.

You will have a principal engineer’s ability to address the finer points of architecture, consider the ramifications of far-reaching decisions, collaborate with stakeholders, and cultivate and apply the right elements of modern good practice and standards. Through such actions and direct contributions you will play a key part in shaping platform capabilities and effectiveness.

    You will also bring:
    • Prior experience designing and successfully delivering complex, high-quality enterprise and/or cloud solutions, from technical domains such the scientific, engineering and/or industrial sectors.
    • Significant skills with C# and modern .NET, creating elegant designs, tracking the evolution of the language and selecting the best elements to incorporate.
    • Experience with AWS or Azure as a target platform, containers, and potentially cloud native approaches, Kubernetes etc. Ideally (not necessarily) this may include specific knowledge of vendor offerings and appropriate architectures and patterns for those offerings.
    • A deep understanding of cloud-compatible architectures (such as microservices and SoA), RESTful API design considerations, and ideally, a good awareness of security and authentication considerations (OAuth is relevant).
    • A strong academic track record including a good technical degree and top A-level grades or equivalent.

The company offers a multi-cultural environment, a focus on sustainability, and a top package including a highly competitive salary, enhanced pension and holiday, hybrid working several days per week, and a host of career and skills development options in addition to tailored package elements.

Keywords: Principal engineer, principal software developer, C#, .NET, cloud, Azure, AWS, cloud native, containers, microservice, service-oriented, REST, API, intelligence, security, authentication, OAuth, sustainability, Cambridge, hybrid.
