How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Department: Mortgage Strategy and Mortgage Finance Gazette

    Base Location: East Croydon

    Employment Type: Full-time, Permanent/Hybrid

    Salary: £65,000- £70,000 DOE + 40% BONUS DOE

    Overall Purpose of the Role:

    As Commercial Director – Mortgages you will be responsible for creating, leading, and inspiring a high performing commercial team, across multiple revenue streams generating sustainable growth, year on year including: print and digital advertising, content marketing, event sponsorship and awards sponsorship across the Mortgage Strategy and Mortgage Finance Gazette publishing brands.

    Key responsibilities:

    -Create the audience and commercial propositions for publishing, awards and events

    -Update and refresh all sales collateral across publishing and events including client and market proposals, presentations, and media packs

    -Maintain key accounts top 20 clients on MST

    -Key account top 10 clients on MFG

    -Manage trading relationships with all key agencies

    -Manage a sales team

    -Monitor market share across all advertising clients

    -Target new business and maintain prospect lists

    -Create new content marketing and sponsorship ideas

    -Work closely with editorial, production and ADOPs

    -To conduct regular appraisals with your direct report/s, identifying stretching and developing objectives as appropriate.

    -Organise and execute team training

    -To deliver/exceed against brand monthly, quarterly, and annual sales targets (revenue/share/yield)

    -Demonstrate clear sales leadership by assisting your direct reports to deliver best practice and revenues

    -To develop and implement the operational sales plan for each product you are responsible for, on and offline, in line with the brand strategy as directed by MD

    -To ensure effective communication of the sales strategy to your team.

    -Forecast accurately on a rolling basis, current/next month and annualised -revenue/profit by product where applicable.

    -Manage divisional costs according to budget (e.g. expenses, ad promotion, recruitment costs, P&L of NPD)

    Skills and experience:

    -Educated to degree level or equivalent advantageous

    -Demonstrable experience leading a high performing, multi-platform commercial team in a fast-paced environment.

    -Proven track record of successfully developing individuals through first rate coaching and leadership

    -Core competencies:

    -Commercial awareness with an appreciation of wider business strategies

    -Sound understanding of Sales structure and processes

    -Relationship Building, both internally and externally

    -Excellent face to face communication and presentation skills

    -World class sales skills including negotiation.
