How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    About the Role

Applicants should have an RTPI accredited degree / postgraduate qualification in Town Planning, with a minimum of 5 years of postgraduate professional experience. While this is a post in which we expect the successful candidate to be based in our Edinburgh office, hybrid working arrangements will be considered.

    About You

The successful candidate will be required to manage their own projects, manage planning applications and appeals, prepare planning appraisals and development plan submissions, carry out research, and generally play an active role in all of the planning consultancy aspects of our business.

The successful candidate will be ambitious and commercially minded, show attention to detail and possess excellent written and oral communication skills. The applicant must possess a driving license and have access to a car to allow them to carry out their duties in the position.

The following core skills are also required:

    • Excellent IT skills including MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint

    • Excellent planning and organisational skills

    • Excellent problem-solving and negotiation skills

    • Ability to manage a varied workload and meet strict deadlines

We will offer the successful candidate an attractive salary and benefits package, and the opportunity to join an established and highly respected consultancy continuing to grow its portfolio across the UK.

Key Info from the Hiring Manager:

Ideally the Associate would have ca. 7-10 years’ experience, with good experience in renewables energy/EIA. Scottish experience would also be good, but the projects are right across GB so a willingness to work in both the Scottish and English planning systems + S36/S37 consents/NSIPs would be important
