How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Quantity Surveyor – Retail Fit-Out

Location: East Yorkshire, with UK travel
    Salary: £60,000 – £65,000 + Company Car/Car Allowance + 25 Days Holiday + Bank Holidays

    About you

You are an experienced Quantity Surveyor who understands the commercial demands of fast-paced retail construction and fit-out.

You will be comfortable working on projects where programmes are tight, costs need to be closely controlled and there are multiple stakeholders to manage. You will have the commercial confidence to challenge costs, negotiate with the supply chain and make sure projects remain financially on track.

This is a role for someone who enjoys being involved in the detail but can also understand the wider commercial objectives of a project and the client relationship.

Experience within food retail would be highly beneficial, although experience across wider retail fit-out, refurbishment or construction environments will also be considered.

    Your experience

You will have proven experience working as a Quantity Surveyor within retail fit-out, refurbishment or construction.

Ideally, you will have experience of fast-paced retail environments, particularly projects delivered across multiple locations or within live trading stores.

Experience working for major food retailers or within a food retail framework would be advantageous, but it is not essential.

    You will also have:

Strong commercial and financial management skills

Experience managing subcontract procurement and tendering

Good understanding of valuations, variations and change control

Experience preparing forecasts, cost reports and financial information

    Strong contract and commercial awareness

    Excellent negotiation and communication skills

The ability to manage several projects and competing priorities

A relevant Quantity Surveying or Commercial Management qualification, or equivalent experience

What you will be doing with your experience

You will take responsibility for the commercial management of a number of retail projects across the UK.

Working closely with the Project Manager and wider delivery team, you will ensure projects are commercially controlled from pre-construction through to final account.

    Your role will include:

Managing the commercial and contractual aspects of retail fit-out and refurbishment projects

Preparing cost plans, budgets, valuations and forecasts

    Managing subcontract procurement and tendering

    Negotiating with subcontractors and suppliers

Monitoring project costs, profitability and cash flow

Managing variations, change and commercial risk

Preparing and agreeing interim and final accounts

Producing accurate commercial reports for senior management

Working closely with clients and project teams to resolve commercial issues

Supporting pre-construction activities and developing cost plans for future projects

You will be working on significant retail projects for a major food retail client, giving you the opportunity to build on your experience and take responsibility for the commercial performance of high-profile schemes across the UK.

    About the business

This is a well-established retail specialist contractor with a turnover of more than £50 million.

They have built a strong reputation for delivering high-quality retail projects nationwide and have developed long-standing relationships with some of the UK's best-known retailers.

The business is financially strong, well established and has the feel of a family-run company, with a close-knit team and a genuine focus on its people.

With a strong pipeline of secured work and continued growth across its retail division, they are now looking to strengthen their commercial team with an experienced Quantity Surveyor who can take ownership of the commercial performance of major retail schemes and grow with the business.

    Next steps

If you are an experienced Quantity Surveyor with a background in retail fit-out, refurbishment or construction and are looking for your next challenge, I would be keen to speak with you.

Apply now and I will give you a call to talk through the role, the projects and the business in more detail
