How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    About the role:

    To provide high-quality technical support to learning programmes within the Electrical Installations department, ensuring workshops, equipment and practical teaching areas are effectively prepared and maintained. The post holder will work closely with teaching staff to support practical sessions and demonstrations and will also contribute to course development, team meetings and the continued growth of the department.

    This role offers an excellent opportunity for someone interested in developing a career within education and could provide a pathway into teaching and assessing in the future.

    The successful applicant will report to the Assistant Head of Department for Electrical Installations for day-to-day responsibilities and other departmental duties.

    Location: Predominantly based at the Cambridge Campus, although occasional travel to the Huntingdon Campus may be required.

    Main Responsibilities

    Maintain and carry out basic repairs to equipment within workshops and training areas.
    Prepare and set up equipment, tools, materials and assessment areas for practical sessions and demonstrations.
    Provide practical support to teaching staff during workshop sessions, demonstrations and assessments.
    Help maintain a safe, organised and effective working environment, ensuring good Health & Safety practices are followed at all times.
    Support the development and preparation of practical activities for learning programmes.
    Contribute to team meetings and the ongoing development of the Electrical Installations provision.

    What we are looking for in our role:

    We are looking for someone with at least one year’s relevant trade experience, including practical experience within an electrical environment, particularly in maintenance and repair. You will have up-to-date knowledge of Health & Safety requirements relating to Electrical Installations, alongside good interpersonal, administrative and communication skills. You should be well organised, able to meet deadlines and confident in building positive working relationships with both colleagues and students. Applicants should also hold a minimum Level 2 Diploma in Electrical Installations.
