How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Employment Type: Permanent The Mechanical Design & Development Engineer position is required in IPSWICH for our client operating within the manufacturing industry. This role offers the opportunity to design and develop industrial machinery and special-purpose equipment from initial concept through to manufacture, assembly and testing. The engineer will combine 3D CAD design with practical workshop engineering, producing manufacturing drawings and BOMs, developing prototypes, resolving engineering issues and continually improving equipment performance, reliability and manufacturability.

    Mechanical Design & Development Engineer Job Overview

    ● Designing industrial machinery, mechanical systems and fabricated assemblies using 3D CAD software such as SolidWorks, Inventor, Fusion 360 or equivalent

    ● Developing new products and equipment from initial concept through to production

    ● Producing detailed manufacturing drawings, assembly documentation and Bills of Materials

    ● Designing equipment with manufacturability, reliability, serviceability and cost-effectiveness in mind

    ● Developing, assembling and testing prototype equipment from your own CAD designs

    ● Carrying out practical mechanical fitting, machinery assembly and modifications within a workshop environment

    ● Diagnosing design and mechanical issues during testing and implementing effective engineering solutions

    ● Working closely with customers, suppliers, subcontract manufacturers and production teams to develop and improve equipment

    ● Supporting production during the introduction of new products and engineering changes

    ● Taking ownership of engineering projects through design, manufacture and commissioning support

    ● Identifying opportunities for innovation and continuous improvement across the product range

    Mechanical Design & Development Engineer Job Requirements

    ● Degree, HNC or HND in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline

    ● Typically 10 years or more experience designing and developing industrial equipment, machinery or special-purpose machinery, although exceptional candidates with fewer years of experience will be considered

    ● Strong experience using modern 3D CAD software such as SolidWorks, Inventor, Fusion 360 or equivalent

    ● Extensive experience producing manufacturing drawings, Bills of Materials and engineering documentation

    ● Strong understanding of Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DFMA)

    ● Experience with stainless steel fabrication, welded assemblies, sheet metal design and machined components

    ● Practical workshop experience involving mechanical assembly, fitting, testing and modification of equipment

    ● Excellent mechanical problem-solving and engineering troubleshooting ability

    ● Good understanding of manufacturing processes and the practical requirements of taking designs through to finished machinery

    ● Strong communication skills with the confidence to work with customers, suppliers and production teams

    ● Full UK driving licence
