How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Position: Mechanical Design Engineer
    Location: Manchester
    Salary: £40,000 - £60,000 DOE
    Working Arrangement: Hybrid Working
    Employment Type: Permanent

We are delighted to be recruiting on behalf of a well-established, multidisciplinary property consultancy with over 30 professionals across the UK. Due to continued organic growth and the decision to expand its in-house Building Services capability, our client is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer / Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join its growing Manchester team.

This is an excellent opportunity for an Engineer looking for greater project ownership than a traditional design-only consultancy position. The successful candidate will combine Mechanical Building Services design with client interaction, surveys, site involvement and project management, taking projects from initial design through to successful delivery. The role would particularly suit a high-level Intermediate or Senior Engineer who enjoys seeing how their designs are implemented in practice and wants the opportunity to manage their own projects.

Mechanical Design Engineer Salary & Benefits

    Salary: £40,000 - £60,000 DOE
25 days holiday plus Bank Holidays
    Pension scheme
    Professional memberships paid
    Ongoing CPD and career development
    Support towards Chartership where applicable
Hybrid working available, typically 1-2 days following probation by agreement
Opportunity to take genuine ownership of projects from design through to completion
Varied project portfolio across Education, Healthcare, Local Authority and Social Housing
Opportunity to influence the Mechanical team's design software, systems and processes
    Collaborative multidisciplinary working environment

Support the continued development of the consultancy's in-house Mechanical Engineering capability.

    Mechanical Design Engineer Job Requirements

Approximately 5+ years' experience within Mechanical Building Services Engineering preferred, although candidates at different levels may be considered.

Experience taking projects beyond design and remaining involved throughout construction and delivery.
Comfortable undertaking surveys, attending site and dealing directly with contractors.
    Strong client-facing and communication skills.
Ability to take responsibility for projects rather than operating solely as part of a design production team.
AutoCAD experience required, with Revit experience highly advantageous.
Experience with Mechanical calculation/design software; the business is flexible regarding specific packages.
Strong understanding of how Mechanical designs are practically coordinated and delivered on site.
