How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

Applications Engineers – Electrical OR Mechanical Bias Ripley, Derbyshire |
    £30,000 – £50,000 DOE | Permanent
    Multiple Opportunities Available

Applications Engineering | Mechanical | Electrical | Controls & Instrumentation | Energy & Industrial Projects

Are you an experienced Applications Engineer, Proposals Engineer, Mechanical Engineer or Electrical Engineer looking for a role where you can use your technical expertise to develop solutions, influence projects and work directly with customers?

Our client is looking to strengthen their growing Sales team with Applications Engineers across both Mechanical and Electrical disciplines.

Whether your background is predominantly mechanical engineering or electrical, controls and instrumentation, these are technically challenging and commercially focused positions where you'll take customer requirements and develop them into practical, commercially viable engineering solutions.

You'll be involved from initial customer enquiry and technical discussions through solution development, equipment selection, costing and proposal preparation to contract award.

Working across complex energy and industrial systems, you'll collaborate with customers, suppliers and multidisciplinary engineering teams on technically interesting UK and international projects.

The Role As an Applications Engineer, you will:

Review customer specifications, drawings, schematics, data sheets and technical requirements
Develop engineering solutions in response to customer enquiries
Produce engineering concepts, calculations and supporting technical documentation
Assess customer requirements and determine appropriate equipment and technical solutions
    Support equipment and component selection
Work with suppliers and manufacturers to obtain technical and commercial information
Support estimating, costing and tender preparation
Prepare detailed technical proposals and identify suitable alternative solutions where appropriate
Attend customer meetings and provide technical support throughout the sales process
Liaise closely with internal engineering and project teams to ensure proposed solutions are practical and achievable
Maintain accurate records of enquiries, proposals and customer requirements
Contribute to product development, standardisation, cost reduction and continuous improvement Electrical Applications Engineers For the Electrical Applications Engineer opportunities, we're particularly interested in candidates with experience or knowledge across:

    Electrical engineering, controls and instrumentation
    AC/DC power systems
    Electrical distribution and protection
    Control and instrumentation interfaces
    Electrical equipment selection
    Electrical schematics and technical drawings
    Single-line diagrams
    Load schedules
    Cable schedules
Electrical calculations and technical documentation You'll use your electrical and C&I knowledge to interpret customer requirements and develop appropriate solutions for complex engineering applications.
Mechanical Applications Engineers For the Mechanical Applications Engineer opportunities, we're particularly interested in candidates with a strong mechanical engineering background who can interpret customer requirements and develop appropriate equipment and system solutions.
    Relevant experience could include:

    Mechanical equipment and system design
    Mechanical calculations and technical documentation
    Equipment specification and selection
Reviewing mechanical drawings, layouts, schematics and data sheets
    Piping and associated mechanical systems
Pumps, valves, vessels, packaged equipment or rotating equipment
    Materials and component selection
Understanding design parameters such as pressure, temperature, flow and operating conditions
Working with suppliers and manufacturers to develop technically suitable solutions
Supporting costing, quotations, tenders or technical proposals Experience across all of these areas isn't essential; we're interested in engineers who have a strong mechanical foundation and the ability to apply their technical knowledge to customer-specific engineering requirements.
What We're Looking For We're particularly interested in engineers who can combine strong technical knowledge with commercial awareness and confident customer communication.
    Ideally, you will have:

At least 2 years' relevant experience within Applications Engineering, Proposals Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Technical Sales in a relevant industry
An HND or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a related discipline
A strong mechanical or electrical engineering background
Experience working within industrial, energy or other complex engineering environments
The ability to interpret technical specifications, drawings, schematics, data sheets and engineering requirements
Experience developing engineering solutions around customer and project requirements
    Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Good commercial awareness and an understanding of customer requirements
Excellent communication skills with the confidence to liaise directly with customers and suppliers
The ability to manage multiple enquiries, priorities and deadlines
A full UK driving licence and willingness to travel when required Previous experience within gas turbines, carbon capture, hydrogen, energy recovery, power generation, power grid, water or nuclear would be highly advantageous.

Why Consider This Opportunity? These positions offer much more than simply producing designs or quotations.

You'll become involved at the front end of technically complex projects, using your engineering expertise to understand what the customer needs and helping determine the best solution before a contract is awarded.

It's an excellent opportunity for an experienced engineer who enjoys problem-solving, technical variety and customer interaction and would like greater commercial involvement without moving away from engineering.

    In return, you can expect:

    £30,000 – £50,000 salary, dependent on experience
    Competitive bonus scheme
    5% matched pension scheme
    Private healthcare
    EV salary sacrifice scheme
Cycle to Work salary sacrifice scheme
Exposure to complex UK and international engineering projects
A varied role combining technical engineering, customer interaction and commercial activity
Career development and opportunities to broaden your technical and commercial expertise The Details Positions: Applications Engineers – Mechanical & Electrical Bias
    Location: Ripley, Derbyshire
    Contract: Permanent, full-time
    Salary: £30,000 – £50,000 DOE
Travel: UK and international travel may be required

Additional requirements: Occasional out-of-hours support may be required

Interested? If you're currently working within Applications Engineering, Proposals Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Technical Sales and would like a role where you can have greater involvement in developing customer solutions, we'd like to hear from you.

You don't necessarily need to already hold the title Applications Engineer. If you have a strong mechanical or electrical engineering background with the technical and customer-facing skills to make the transition, we'd still be interested in hearing from you.
