How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

If you got into building surveying because you genuinely love buildings, this could be one of the most rewarding moves you make. A well-established consultancy with a strong TDD pipeline is looking for a Chartered Building Surveyor to join a small, experienced team surveying some of the most interesting properties in the country: 14th-century manor houses, historic hotel estates, care homes and high street portfolios.

You'll travel the length of the UK, see places most people never visit, meet new clients every week, and keep developing into an outstanding building surveyor.

This isn't a desk job. It's autonomous, home-based, and built around variety with an uncapped bonus scheme.

    The Chartered Building Surveyor Role

The core of the role is TDD and acquisition surveys across commercial property, with a genuine mix of characterful historic buildings and standard stock. You'll also deliver project monitoring instructions on behalf of lenders and financial institutions, and carry out detailed condition and compliance surveys on care home portfolios. There's real breadth here.

You'll work closely with the director, who peer-reviews reports and gives constructive, actionable feedback. The consultancy has a strong long-term pipeline and a clear succession plan: the director is looking to bring someone through to a senior leadership position over the next few years.

Duties of the Chartered Building Surveyor to include:

Carrying out TDD surveys on historic hotels, listed buildings, care homes and commercial property
Delivering project monitoring instructions for banks and lending institutions
Undertaking acquisition and reinstatement surveys for institutional and private clients
Producing detailed condition reports with a focus on building pathology and defect diagnosis
Conducting statutory compliance assessments on care home portfolios
Managing client relationships from instruction through to completion
Using drone technology and specialist survey equipment on site
Identifying cross-selling and business development opportunities The Person?

Someone with a genuine passion for buildings, the independence to manage a nationwide diary, and enough commercial instinct to spot opportunities.

The Chartered Building Surveyor will ideally have:

    MRICS qualification
Post-qualification experience in TDD or acquisition surveying
Sound knowledge of building pathology, construction forms and defect analysis
Experience of, or interest in, project monitoring for lenders
Confidence working autonomously with significant UK-wide travel
A proactive approach to client relationships and business growthIn Return…?

    Salary package of £50,000 - £65,000
Performance bonus scheme (uncapped, linked to fee income)
Mileage rate of 50p per mile (first 10,000 miles)
    Annual car insurance contribution
    Drone provided
25 days holiday plus bank holidays, increasing with service
    Life insurance (4x salary)
Pension with 5% employer match after one year
Flexible, home-based workingIf you believe you can deliver this rewarding role to a high standard, or are a Building Surveyor considering your next career move, please contact Stuart Miller at Brandon James on (phone number removed).
