How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Qualifications

    Essential:

    Previous experience setting up and operating CNC laser and/or punch machinery
    Ideally 1-2 years' experience in a laser setting/operating role
    Experience setting and adjusting laser cutting machines
    Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
    Good mathematical ability
    Experience using precision measuring equipment, including verniers
    Understanding of laser cutting gases and parameters
    Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
    Ability to work to production schedules and deadlines
    Good understanding of Health & Safety within a manufacturing environment
    Desirable:

    Experience maintaining or cleaning laser optics
    Experience programming laser/punch machinery
    Knowledge of different laser cutting materials and processes
    Experience working with lean manufacturing principles
    Previous experience working within a sheet metal or fabrication environment

    Roles & Responsibilities

    Set up, check, adjust and prepare CNC laser jobs for production.
    Set up and adjust materials correctly to ensure accurate and efficient production.
    Locate and upload the correct programmes via the machine control system.
    Select and adjust laser cutting conditions and parameters to achieve optimum results.
    Understand and select appropriate laser cutting gases and settings.
    Carry out first-piece inspections and subsequent quality checks as required.
    Use precision measuring equipment, including verniers, to ensure components meet required specifications.
    Load and unload materials and finished products from the machine safely and carefully.
    Monitor the quality of finished components and immediately report any issues to the Shift Supervisor.
    Monitor equipment and tooling for wear and request maintenance when required.
    Carry out basic machine maintenance and repairs where appropriate.
    Ensure laser equipment and the surrounding area are set up safely and correctly.
    Ensure all safety devices and procedures are followed at all times.
    Properly package, identify and move finished products to the correct location.
    Maintain accurate production and data collection records.
    Work closely with Supervisors, Programmers, Engineers and Operations to improve programmes, processes and production methods.
    Support continuous improvement and lean manufacturing activities.
    Cross-train across other areas of the manufacturing plant as required.

    As a Laser Setter Operator, you will also be expected to:

    Take responsibility for the quality and accuracy of your own work.
    Work efficiently within a fast-paced production environment.
    Maintain high standards of housekeeping.
    Follow all company Health & Safety procedures.
    Be comfortable handling, lifting and moving sheet metal and steel materials.
    Demonstrate a proactive approach to identifying and resolving production issues.
    Work effectively as part of a wider manufacturing team.
    Be keen to learn and develop, with the ambition to progress into more senior roles within the business.
