How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

Quantity Surveyor – Main Contractor - Residential / Mixed-Use New Build - Central London

    Salary/Package: £65,000 - £80,000 + Strong Benefits Package + Travel Expenses

O’Neill and Brennan are currently working with a highly successful and growing main contractor who are looking to appoint an experienced Quantity Surveyor to join their expanding commercial team, based from their modern Liverpool Street office.

The business has experienced exceptional growth over the last three years, with annual turnover almost doubling year-on-year, alongside a significant increase in pre-tax profits and a doubling of cash reserves over the last 12 months. With a strong pipeline of live projects and tenders currently being pursued, they are continuing to expand their commercial team.

The successful candidate will work across residential and mixed-use new-build projects, supporting the commercial management of projects from pre-construction through to completion and working closely with Senior QSs, Commercial Managers and the wider project team.

Main contracting experience is preferred, particularly experience working with JCT contracts, given the nature of the role. However, candidates from a developer background with strong commercial experience will also be considered.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a financially strong business with significant momentum, strong job security and genuine long-term progression opportunities.

    Role Overview:

    • Title: Quantity Surveyor
    • Project: Residential / Mixed-Use New Build
    • Location: Liverpool Street, Central London
    • Salary: £65,000 – £80,000 + Package
    • Start: ASAP but can wait for the right person
    • Type: Permanent
    • Contract: JCT

    Responsibilities:

    • Supporting the commercial management of residential and mixed-use new-build projects
    • Assisting with the procurement and management of subcontract packages from tender through to final account
    • Preparing subcontract enquiries, tender comparisons and assisting with negotiations and recommendations for award
    • Managing subcontractor valuations, payments, variations and final accounts
    • Assisting with monthly cost reporting, forecasting and commercial reporting
    • Monitoring project costs and highlighting potential commercial risks and opportunities
    • Assisting with the preparation and submission of valuations and variations
    • Maintaining accurate commercial records and ensuring project costs are properly tracked
    • Working closely with Senior QSs, Commercial Managers, Project Managers and the wider construction team
    • Developing an understanding of and working within JCT contract mechanisms
    • Supporting both pre-contract and live project activities where required
    • Building effective working relationships with subcontractors, consultants and the wider project team

    Requirements:

    • Proven experience working as a Quantity Surveyor within a main contracting or principal contracting environment
    • Experience working on residential and/or mixed-use new-build projects
    • Understanding or previous experience of JCT contracts is preferred
    • Developer-side experience will also be considered, particularly where the candidate has strong commercial and contractual experience
    • Experience across either pre-contract or live projects; ideally both, although this is not essential
    • Good understanding of subcontract procurement, valuations, variations and final accounts
    • Strong commercial awareness with good negotiation and communication skills
    • Ability to work effectively as part of a wider commercial and project team
    • Ambition to develop and progress within a growing and expanding business

If you're a Quantity Surveyor looking for a long-term opportunity with a rapidly growing main contractor, offering strong financial stability, excellent project exposure and genuine progression opportunities, please contact Ned Scott-Mends on 07552 619 663, or send your CV via email at n.scott-mends@oandb.co.uk.
