How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    • Supporting the delivery of a Below Water Warfare and Anti-Submarine Warfare training programme through realistic simulation and scenario execution.
    • Providing scenario control, tactical injects, cues and prompts to enhance operational realism and learning outcomes.
    • Working within the Common Synthetic Environment Control (CSEC) room and live training environments.
    • Supporting scenario preparation, simulator configuration, data collection and performance monitoring.
    • Assisting Royal Navy instructors in the delivery of synthetic warfare training and exercises.
    • Maintaining the highest standards of safety, security and training delivery.

    Ideal Background

We are particularly interested in candidates with operational experience in one or more of the following areas:

    • Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) operations.
    • Sonar operations and acoustic analysis.
    • Below Water Warfare tactical procedures and doctrine.
    • Maritime tactical decision-making in complex operational environments.
    • Command and Control (C2) systems and maritime situational awareness.
    • Training and mentoring naval personnel in operational or synthetic environments.
    • Mission planning, threat assessment and tactical development.
    • Experience operating within Royal Navy warfare teams or operations rooms.

    What You'll Bring

    The successful candidate will have:

    • A strong understanding of Royal Navy surface ship sensors, sonar systems and weapon systems.
    • Experience with Royal Navy Command Systems, ideally DNA(2) and/or CMS.
    • Knowledge of Operations Room Action Information Organisation (AIO) structures and processes.
    • An understanding of underwater warfare tactics and the challenges associated with submarine detection and tracking.
    • Strong communication skills and the ability to work closely with instructors, trainees and fellow operators.
    • A proactive, adaptable approach and the ability to perform effectively in a dynamic training environment.

    Why Join Us?

    • Work directly with world-class maritime warfare and simulation technology.
    • Play a vital role in preparing Royal Navy personnel for operational success.
    • Remain connected to the ASW and maritime warfare community.
    • Support the development of future warfare specialists and tactical capability.
    • Join a collaborative and supportive team environment.
    • Enjoy a healthy work-life balance, including the opportunity for early finishes up to three days per week.

If you have an Anti-Submarine Warfare, Sonar, Operations Room, Underwater Warfare or Maritime Training background and want to continue making a real contribution to UK Defence capability, we'd love to hear from you.
