We are seeking a Synthetic Training Operator (STO) to support the Royal Navy's leading-edge Below Water Warfare Simulation Training Programme at HMS Collingwood.
This role sits within the Royal Navy's Maritime Composite Training System (MCTS) environment, delivering realistic, high-fidelity synthetic training designed to develop and assess warfare specialists operating in complex underwater battlespace scenarios.
This opportunity would be particularly suited to candidates with a Royal Navy Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) background, including those with experience in sonar operations, underwater warfare, tactical development, or maritime command systems.
What You'll Be Doing:
As a Synthetic Training Operator, you will play a key role in delivering immersive and realistic naval warfare training exercises, supporting instructors and trainees throughout the training lifecycle.
Key responsibilities include:
- Operating advanced simulation systems across the Warfare Team Trainer (WTT), Classroom-Based Simulation Trainer (CBST) and Electronic Classroom Trainers (ECT).
- Supporting the delivery of a Below Water Warfare and Anti-Submarine Warfare training programme through realistic simulation and scenario execution.
- Providing scenario control, tactical injects, cues and prompts to enhance operational realism and learning outcomes.
- Working within the Common Synthetic Environment Control (CSEC) room and live training environments.
- Supporting scenario preparation, simulator configuration, data collection and performance monitoring.
- Assisting Royal Navy instructors in the delivery of synthetic warfare training and exercises.
- Maintaining the highest standards of safety, security and training delivery.
Ideal Background
We are particularly interested in candidates with operational experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) operations.
- Sonar operations and acoustic analysis.
- Below Water Warfare tactical procedures and doctrine.
- Maritime tactical decision-making in complex operational environments.
- Command and Control (C2) systems and maritime situational awareness.
- Training and mentoring naval personnel in operational or synthetic environments.
- Mission planning, threat assessment and tactical development.
- Experience operating within Royal Navy warfare teams or operations rooms.
What You'll Bring
The successful candidate will have:
- A strong understanding of Royal Navy surface ship sensors, sonar systems and weapon systems.
- Experience with Royal Navy Command Systems, ideally DNA(2) and/or CMS.
- Knowledge of Operations Room Action Information Organisation (AIO) structures and processes.
- An understanding of underwater warfare tactics and the challenges associated with submarine detection and tracking.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work closely with instructors, trainees and fellow operators.
- A proactive, adaptable approach and the ability to perform effectively in a dynamic training environment.
