How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

We are seeking an experienced Safety Advisor to join a major Tier 1 contractor supporting the delivery of water and civil engineering projects across the Dundee area.

The successful candidate will provide professional health and safety advice across live water infrastructure and civils works, working closely with project managers, site teams, subcontractors and the wider SHEQ function to ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently and in line with all relevant legislation and company standards.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Safety Advisor with a strong background in water, utilities, civil engineering or infrastructure projects, who is confident working in a site-based environment and can positively influence safety performance across multiple levels of the project team.

    Responsibilities

    *

Provide competent health and safety advice and guidance to project management, engineers, supervisors and site operatives.

    *

Carry out regular site inspections, audits and safety tours across water and civil engineering works.

    *

Monitor compliance with health and safety legislation, company policies, project procedures and client requirements.

    *

Review and advise on Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS) and ensure safe systems of work are implemented.

    *

Support the delivery of water infrastructure and civils activities, including excavation, earthworks, pipework, utilities, reinstatement and associated construction operations.

    *

Provide guidance on key construction risks including excavations, confined spaces, lifting operations, plant and machinery, temporary works, underground services and traffic management.

    *

Investigate accidents, incidents, near misses and dangerous occurrences, supporting root-cause analysis and implementation of corrective actions.

    *

Monitor and improve health and safety performance across subcontractors and supply chain partners.

    *

Deliver and support toolbox talks, site briefings, safety stand-downs and behavioural safety initiatives.

    *

Work closely with site management to identify hazards and implement effective control measures.

    *

Attend project SHEQ meetings and contribute to health and safety performance reporting.

    *

Assist with the development and implementation of project-specific emergency procedures and arrangements.

    *

Maintain accurate records of inspections, audits, incidents, corrective actions and other SHEQ activities.

    *

Promote a proactive safety culture and encourage continuous improvement across the project.

    *

Ensure that health and safety standards are consistently maintained across all project activities and work fronts.

    The Ideal Candidate

    *

NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent health and safety qualification.

    *

TechIOSH, GradIOSH or CMIOSH membership, or actively working towards professional membership, would be advantageous.

    *

Previous experience as a Safety Advisor within civil engineering, water, utilities or infrastructure projects.

    *

Experience working for a Tier 1 contractor is highly desirable.

    *

Strong understanding of UK health and safety legislation and current construction industry best practice.

    *

Experience working on water infrastructure, utilities or major civils projects would be particularly beneficial.

    *

Strong knowledge of construction risks including excavations, confined spaces, lifting operations, temporary works, plant, underground services and site traffic management.

    *

Proven experience with RAMS reviews, site inspections, audits, incident investigations and risk assessments.

    *

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to challenge and influence site teams and subcontractors effectively.

    *

A proactive and pragmatic approach to health and safety, with the confidence to work autonomously on live construction sites.

    *

Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.

    *

Comfortable working collaboratively with project management, engineering and SHEQ teams.

    *

A genuine commitment to promoting high standards of health and safety and developing a positive safety culture.

    *

CSCS or equivalent construction site certification is desirable.

    *

Full UK driving licence is desirable due to the site-based and project-focused nature of the role
