How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

Administrator – Spider is advertising on behalf of a well-established, long-established and employee-owned independent academic publishing company who are looking for an organised and proactive Administrator to join their team on a full-time, permanent basis at their offices in Martlesham, Suffolk.

    Company benefits include:

Competitive Salary: Starting salary of £24,000 per annum
Holiday: 25 days annual leave, plus bank holidays and a 3-day Christmas closure
Other: Auto-enrolment pension scheme, medical insurance, Group Life Assurance, dividend share scheme, flexible Fridays with a 3pm finish, employee committee involvement, local and global events, and access to industry resources

    About the role:

As an Administrator, you will provide essential administrative support across marketing, partnerships and business services, helping to ensure campaigns, events, office coordination and day-to-day processes run smoothly. This is a varied role where you will manage multiple priorities, support external events and conferences, respond to author and customer queries, assist with partnership activity and take ownership of core office administration, be one of the onsite first aiders and the main fire marshal (formal training will be provided). Working hours for this role will be 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday based in the office in Martlesham.

    Key responsibilities:

Support conference and external event activity, coordinating campaign materials, logistics, checklists, event stock, returns and sales within agreed deadlines
Provide author and customer support, responding to or allocating inbox enquiries, maintaining accurate mailing lists and processing review copy requests
Assist with partnership activities, including preparing communications, campaigns and information packs, as well as carrying out desk research to support partnership outreach
Manage general office administration, including post, office supplies, facilities coordination and monitoring general enquiries
Maintain accurate Health & Safety and compliance records, ensuring administrative processes are completed to the required standard
Work collaboratively across the business, adapting to changing priorities and providing administrative support to help deliver agreed objectives and deadlines

    About You:

As an Administrator, you will have previous experience in an office or administrative role, with strong organisational skills and the ability to manage a varied workload independently. Prior first aid or fire marshal experience would be advantageous but not essential as training will be provided. You will be reliable, proactive and solutions-focused, with excellent attention to detail and a high level of administrative accuracy. You will have strong written and verbal communication skills and be confident working with colleagues and external stakeholders. Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office is essential, alongside the ability to adapt to changing priorities and contribute positively as part of a wider team. Previous experience within publishing is not essential, and candidates with transferable administrative experience from other sectors are encouraged to apply.

    About Them:

This is an excellent opportunity to join a long-established, independent and employee-owned academic publishing company where employees have the opportunity to contribute to the wider organisation and share in its success.

As an employee-owned business, staff members are entitled to a share of company profits through the dividend share scheme, alongside a supportive working environment, opportunities to get involved in company committees and access to industry resources and events.

If you have the relevant skills and experience for this Administrator position and would like to be considered, please apply by submitting an up-to-date CV as soon as possible. We look forward to hearing from you.
