How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Service Designer | Central Government

    Location: Remote

    Rate: Up to £569 per day (Inside IR35)

    Contract Length: 6 Months+
    Clearance: SC Clearance

    The Opportunity

    We're supporting a major Central Government organisation undertaking a large-scale digital transformation programme and are looking for an experienced Service Designer to join a high-performing multidisciplinary team.

    This programme is transforming critical public services, offering the opportunity to work on complex, high-impact user journeys at national scale. You'll play a key role in shaping services that directly impact citizens while collaborating with experienced design and delivery professionals across government.

    Key Responsibilities

    Lead service design activities across discovery, alpha, beta and live phases.
    Design and improve end-to-end services, ensuring they meet user and business needs.
    Develop service blueprints, user journeys and service maps to identify opportunities for improvement.
    Work closely with Product Managers, Delivery Managers, Policy teams and Technical Architects.
    Advocate for User-Centred Design and service design best practice across stakeholders of varying levels of design maturity.
    Support teams in making evidence-based design decisions through research and service analysis.
    Contribute to the continuous improvement of government services in line with GDS standards.Essential Experience

    Strong and recent experience delivering GDS-aligned Service Design within UK Government or the wider public sector.
    Proven experience working as a dedicated Service Designer within multidisciplinary teams.
    Experience designing and improving complex end-to-end services.
    Strong understanding of the Government Digital Service (GDS) Service Standard and UCD practices.
    Excellent stakeholder management and facilitation skills.
    Demonstrable experience creating:
    Service Blueprints
    User Journeys
    Service Maps
    End-to-End Service Designs
    Experience working within complex policy-led environments.
    Experience transforming citizen-facing services at scale.
    Strong understanding of accessibility, inclusive design and designing for diverse user needs.
    Experience overcoming organisational, technical or policy challenges to deliver service improvements
