How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

Senior Electrical Design Engineer - LPN (82925)

London, Bidder Street | £84,160 plus Inner London Allowance and 3% bonus |

Are you an experienced electrical design engineer ready to influence the future of London's electricity network? Join UK Power Networks within the Capital Programme and Procurement directorate, reporting to the Design Lead and producing high-quality designs across an Assets and Connections portfolio. You will help deliver safe, buildable solutions to agreed cost, time and quality targets while contributing technical excellence within a multi-disciplinary team.

You will produce electrical designs that can be constructed safely and in accordance with UK Power Networks standards and the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015, working independently and assuring the designs of others. Your designs will support contestable and non-contestable works across UK Power Networks substations and will conform to relevant Codes of Practice, company procedures and industry standards.

From concept and developed design through to energisation and project closure, you will prepare specifications and drawings within agreed timescales, contribute to technical, commercial and contractual procurement documents, and work closely with operational teams, customers, stakeholders and engineering partners. You will follow design assurance and audit processes, provide excellent customer service, identify and reduce design hazards, and fulfil the designer or principal designer duties required by CDM.

As a senior technical contributor, you will support and mentor colleagues, share your knowledge and help the wider team deliver innovative, cost-effective solutions. Site visits form part of the role, including entry to operational substations where strict compliance with safety rules and procedures is essential.

You will have a strong electrical engineering background and knowledge of power system and protection design at 132kV, 33kV, 11kV and intermediate voltages. You can represent UK Power Networks effectively with external engineering organisations, customers and stakeholders, work without supervision, set and meet your own targets, identify cost-saving solutions and provide final design sign-off within your area of competence.

A strong safety culture and sound understanding of CDM Regulations are essential, alongside effective teamwork, written and verbal communication, and proficiency in Word, Excel, Project and PowerPoint. You will hold a degree or equivalent qualification in engineering or science and be a Chartered Engineer or working towards Chartership. Knowledge of current developments in distribution plant and equipment is also required.

Ideally, you will also understand DNO, ENA and international design standards, operational design processes, project management and financial reporting, together with broader business, environmental, safety and regulatory considerations. Experience with AutoCAD or MicroStation, knowledge of cables and overhead lines, and an interest in innovative construction techniques that support the UK Power Networks Green Action Plan would be advantageous.

Closing date: 23 September 2026. If you are ready to take ownership of complex electrical designs, strengthen technical capability and help deliver a safe, resilient electricity network, we would like to hear from you
