How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    M&E Design Manager

    Location: Conwy, North Wales
    Salary: £65,000 – £75,000 DOE – Negotiable
    Permanent | Full-Time | Office Based

We are recruiting an experienced M&E Design Manager on behalf of an established and growing M&E contractor based in Conwy, North Wales.

This is a senior appointment within the business, taking responsibility for an existing design department consisting of approximately six Mechanical and Electrical Design Engineers.

The company delivers full Mechanical & Electrical design in-house, and the successful candidate will take overall responsibility for the performance, coordination and development of the design function.

Candidates from either Mechanical or Electrical backgrounds will be considered, although a Mechanical building services background would be preferred.

    The Role

    *

Lead and manage a team of approximately six Mechanical and Electrical Design Engineers.

    *

Oversee the delivery of full M&E building services designs from initial design through to construction.

    *

Manage design workloads, priorities and programmes across multiple projects.

    *

Review designs, specifications, calculations and technical submissions.

    *

Ensure Mechanical and Electrical designs are fully coordinated with architectural and structural requirements.

    *

Provide technical leadership, guidance and support to the design team.

    *

Work closely with Estimating, Contracts, Project Management and site delivery teams.

    *

Ensure designs are practical, buildable and commercially viable.

    *

Identify design risks, clashes and value-engineering opportunities.

    *

Provide technical input during pre-construction and tender stages.

    *

Liaise with clients, consultants, subcontractors and suppliers.

    *

Monitor design progress against construction programmes and project requirements.

    *

Develop and improve internal design processes and standards.

    *

Mentor and develop members of the existing design team.

    About You

    The ideal candidate will have:

    *

Strong experience within Mechanical & Electrical building services design.

    *

Previous experience leading or managing an M&E design team.

    *

Ideally a Mechanical building services background, although Electrical candidates will also be considered.

    *

Good working knowledge across both Mechanical and Electrical building services.

    *

Ideally previous experience working for an M&E installation contractor, building services contractor or main contractor.

    *

Strong understanding of how M&E designs translate into installation on site.

    *

Good commercial awareness, including cost, procurement, programme and buildability considerations.

    *

Experience coordinating M&E designs with other construction disciplines.

    *

    Strong leadership and communication skills.

    *

Ability to oversee multiple projects and design programmes simultaneously.

    *

Relevant Mechanical, Electrical or Building Services qualifications.

Candidates currently working within consultancy will also be considered where they can demonstrate strong commercial awareness and a good understanding of contractor-side project delivery.

    The Opportunity

This is an excellent opportunity to take responsibility for an established multidisciplinary M&E design department within a growing contractor.

The position would suit an experienced M&E Design Manager, Building Services Design Manager, Mechanical Design Manager or Technical Services Manager looking for a senior role where they can have genuine influence over both the design function and delivery of projects.

Salary: £65,000 – £75,000 per annum DOE, with flexibility for the right candidate.

This is a permanent, office-based position working five days per week from the company's Conwy office
