How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Mechanical Design Engineer
    Location: Kettering
    Salary: £38,000 - £51,000 DOE + Benefits

    About the Company
    Our client is a well-established and growing engineering business specialising in the design and manufacture of bespoke systems, special purpose machinery, and production solutions for a range of industrial sectors. Due to continued growth and a strong project pipeline, they are seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join their engineering team.
     
    The Role
    As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will be responsible for the design and development of bespoke machinery from concept through to manufacture and commissioning. Working within a multidisciplinary engineering environment, you will play a key role in delivering innovative and cost-effective solutions that meet customer requirements.
    This position offers the opportunity to work on varied and technically challenging projects within a collaborative and supportive team.
     
    Key Responsibilities
    Design bespoke machinery, systems, and mechanical assemblies using 3D CAD software.
    Produce detailed engineering drawings, assembly drawings, and Bills of Materials (BOMs).
    Develop innovative mechanical solutions based on customer specifications and project requirements.
    Perform engineering calculations, tolerance analysis, and design reviews.
    Collaborate with electrical, controls, manufacturing, and project teams to ensure successful project delivery.
    Support machine build, testing, installation, and commissioning activities.
    Liaise with customers and suppliers regarding technical requirements and project progress.
    Ensure designs comply with relevant engineering standards, health and safety requirements, and industry regulations.
    Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and engineering best practices.
    Candidate Requirements
     
    Essential
    HNC, HND, Degree, or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
    Previous experience in a Mechanical Design Engineer position within systems, special purpose machinery, material handling, or manufacturing environments.
    Proficiency in 3D CAD software such as SolidWorks, Autodesk Inventor, or similar.
    Experience producing detailed manufacturing and assembly drawings.
    Strong understanding of engineering principles, materials, fabrication, and machining processes.
    Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
    Ability to manage multiple projects and work to deadlines.
    Strong communication and team-working abilities.
    Desirable
    Experience designing automated production equipment or conveyor systems.
    Knowledge of pneumatics, servo systems, and motion control technologies.
    Understanding of machinery safety standards and CE/UKCA compliance.
    Experience working within project-driven engineering environments.
    Familiarity with PDM and ERP systems.
