How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Looking for a Health & Safety leadership role where you can lead and develop a team, influence senior stakeholders and have genuine autonomy over how operational H&S is delivered?

    Sustainable Futures Group (SFG) has exclusively partnered with a leading social housing organisation in Manchester to recruit a Health & Safety Manager.

    This is a key operational leadership role within an evolving H&S function, taking responsibility for the day to day leadership of the team and working closely with the H&S Director to strengthen performance, develop people and continually improve how H&S is delivered across the organisation.

    Importantly, this is primarily a people and occupational health & safety role, focused on supporting employees, operational teams and the wider organisation to manage risk effectively.

    About the Organisation

    Our client is a large, well established housing organisation operating across multiple locations and delivering a broad range of housing, repairs, development and community based services.

    Health & Safety has strong visibility across the organisation, with genuine senior level backing and an established positive safety culture.

    The function is continuing to evolve, creating an opportunity for the successful candidate to further develop the team, strengthen collaboration and bring fresh ideas around operational delivery, performance and engagement.

    About the Role

    * Lead and develop a team of H&S professionals and support colleagues, taking ownership of day to day operational delivery

    * Build strong relationships with senior leaders and operational teams, providing pragmatic and proportionate H&S advice

    * Drive team performance through effective management, mentoring, KPIs and quality assurance

    * Oversee key H&S activity including audits, investigations, RIDDOR, training and occupational health and risk management

    * Lead and support improvement projects across areas such as COSHH, vibration, personal safety and ISO 45001

    * Act as a trusted right hand to the H&S Director, bringing ideas, challenge and strong operational leadership to the function

    What We’re Looking For

    * An experienced Health & Safety professional with strong operational H&S knowledge and team leadership experience

    * Experience ideally within Social Housing, Local Authority, Public Sector or large, complex and highly governed organisations

    * A confident people leader who can develop and mentor a team, manage upwards and influence stakeholders at all levels

    * NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent H&S qualification

    * Chartered IOSH (CMIOSH) status is desirable, although CertIOSH candidates with the right experience will be considered

    What’s on Offer

    * Basic salary up to circa. £64,000

    * Car allowance of circa. £5,000 or company car

    * 35 hour working week with hybrid working

    * 4 day working week available (compressed hours - 35 hours across 4 days)

    * Generous annual leave allowance

    * Strong pension scheme

    * Life assurance and enhanced family benefits

    * Training and professional development opportunities

    * Employee wellbeing benefits

    Why Join?

    This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys leading people, influencing at a senior level and turning ideas into action.

    You’ll join an evolving H&S function with strong senior level backing and the autonomy to develop the team, strengthen collaboration and shape how operational H&S is delivered.

    Working closely with the H&S Director, you’ll have genuine influence, visibility and scope to develop your career as the function continues to evolve.
