How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Job Title: Manual Machinist

    Location: Knottingley

    Hourly Rate: Circa £40,000

    Shifts: 8am - 4pm M-T 8am - 1pm F

    Benefits:

    *

Permanent position within an established engineering business

    *

Long-term employment within a specialist workshop

    *

Varied machining rather than repetitive production work

    *

Opportunity to work alongside highly experienced machinists

    *

Exposure to a wide range of traditional machine tools

    The Company:

Theo James Recruitment is proud to be supporting an established heavy engineering business looking to expand its workshop team with an experienced Manual Machinist.

The company operates a substantial engineering facility containing a mixture of specialist, large-scale and traditional machine tools. The workshop undertakes varied engineering work, including component repair, refurbishment and machining.

They are now looking for a Manual Machinist to provide additional capacity within the workshop and support their experienced machining team.

    Job Description:

As a Manual Machinist, you will work across a range of traditional manual machinery, supporting both milling and turning operations.

The workshop operates older, proven engineering equipment including Dean Smith & Grace machinery and a suite of Webster & Bennett borers, alongside larger specialist machines.

    The position will involve:

    *

Setting and operating manual lathes and milling machines

    *

Carrying out general manual machining operations

    *

Machining valve plugs and similar engineering components

    *

Turning components typically ranging from approximately 200mm to 300mm in diameter

    *

Setting jobs independently and machining components accurately

The company has specialist machinists available for its largest equipment, so the Manual Machinist will primarily provide additional capability across general milling, turning and manual machining operations.

    Skills & Experience:

The ideal Manual Machinist will have:

    *

    Previous manual machining experience

    *

Experience setting and operating manual lathes

    *

    Manual milling experience

    *

    Good all-round traditional machining knowledge

    *

The ability to set jobs independently

    *

Experience with Dean Smith & Grace or Webster & Bennett machinery would be advantageous

You do not need to be a specialist on every machine. The company is particularly interested in finding an experienced Manual Machinist who can confidently handle general workshop machining and work alongside its specialist operators.

    Why Should You Apply?

This position would suit a Manual Machinist who enjoys traditional engineering and wants to work somewhere that still values genuine manual machining skills.

Rather than repetitive production work, you’ll be involved with varied components, repair machining and different engineering challenges.

If you’re an experienced Manual Machinist looking for a stable position where your traditional machining knowledge will be genuinely valued, this is an excellent opportunity to consider
