How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Job Type: Full-time
    Location: London
Salary: Up to £50,000 (depending on experience)
Reporting to: Senior Estimator / Estimating Manager

    About the Role

We are looking for a motivated and commercially minded Junior Estimator to join our growing team.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a construction or electrical background who is looking to develop their career within estimating and commercial project management. The successful candidate will gain exposure to a diverse range of projects, from smaller works valued at approximately £10,000 through to major projects in excess of £10 million.

You will work closely with experienced estimators, project managers, suppliers and clients, developing your technical and commercial knowledge while supporting the preparation of accurate and competitive project estimates.

    The Role

As a Junior Estimator, you will support the estimating team throughout the tendering process, helping to ensure projects are priced accurately, competitively and within required timescales.

    Your responsibilities will include:

    * Reviewing drawings, specifications, scopes of work and tender documentation.

    * Assisting with the preparation of detailed project estimates and quotations.

    * Taking off quantities from drawings and project information.

    * Obtaining and analysing material, labour and subcontractor costs.

    * Liaising with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain competitive quotations.

    * Assisting with the preparation of bills of quantities and pricing schedules.

    * Identifying project requirements, exclusions, risks and potential commercial opportunities.

    * Supporting senior estimators with larger and more complex tenders.

    * Maintaining accurate estimating records and project information.

    * Assisting with tender submissions and ensuring deadlines are met.

    * Developing an understanding of project costs, margins and commercial considerations.

    * Working with the wider project team to ensure a smooth handover from estimating to delivery.

    * Building knowledge of current construction methods, materials, labour rates and market conditions.

    About You

We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic about developing a career in estimating and has a genuine interest in the construction and commercial industry.

    Ideally, you will have:

    * Previous experience or qualifications within construction, electrical engineering, building services or a related discipline.

    * A good understanding of construction or electrical installations and associated materials.

    * The ability to read and understand technical drawings and specifications.

    * Strong numerical and analytical skills with excellent attention to detail.

    * Good IT skills, particularly Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.

    * The ability to organise your workload and work to tight deadlines.

    * Good communication and interpersonal skills.

    * A willingness to learn and develop professionally.

    * A commercial mindset and an interest in understanding how projects are priced and delivered.

Previous estimating experience would be advantageous but is not essential. We are particularly interested in candidates with a strong technical foundation who are looking to take the next step in their career.

If you are interested in the role and wish to schedule a confidential chat to discuss further, then please reach out via email or contact our office number directly
