How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

Freelance Project Manager – Retail Fit Out

Initial Location: Birmingham / West Midlands
Future Projects: Predominantly Midlands, with projects in Scotland & Reading to follow
    Start Date: 28th September 2026
Initial Project: Global Sports Brand Store Fit Out – 7 weeks / £500k
Duration: Ongoing work through the remainder of 2026 into 2027
    Contract: Freelance
Travel & Accommodation: Covered where required

    The Opportunity

Due to a strong pipeline of secured retail projects, our client, an established fit-out and refurbishment contractor, is looking for an experienced Freelance Project Manager to join the business and support a growing workload through the remainder of 2026.

The first project will be a £500k store fit out for a global sports brand in Birmingham, commencing on 28th September with a 7-week programme.

Following this, there is a strong pipeline of further retail projects, with the majority of the workload expected to remain across Birmingham and the wider Midlands. There will also be projects in Scotland and Reading over the next 4–5 months, so candidates must be comfortable travelling and staying away when required.

The workload will initially involve taking ownership of individual schemes before progressing into the management of multiple live retail projects at the same time.

    The Role

Working closely with the Contracts Director and senior management team, you will be responsible for the successful delivery of fast-paced retail fit-out and refurbishment projects, generally ranging between £400k–£600k.

    Responsibilities will include:

Managing fast-track retail fit-out and refurbishment projects from start through to completion.

Initially overseeing a £500k global sports brand fit out in Birmingham.

Progressing into managing multiple live projects simultaneously.

Producing, updating and managing project programmes using Microsoft Project.

Coordinating Site Managers, subcontractors, suppliers and specialist trades.

Managing projects against programme, budget and quality targets.

Liaising directly with clients and maintaining strong working relationships.

Monitoring project costs and maintaining good commercial awareness.

Providing regular progress and programme updates to senior management.

Managing resources across multiple projects and locations.

Ensuring health & safety standards are maintained throughout delivery.

    What We're Looking For

    Applicants must have:

Minimum 3 years' experience working as a Project Manager, ideally within fit out and refurbishment.

Strong retail / shop fit-out experience – essential.

Experience delivering fast-track retail projects of a similar value.

Proven experience running multiple projects at the same time.

Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Project – essential.

Ability to confidently produce, update and manage construction programmes.

Strong client-facing and stakeholder management skills.

Good commercial understanding of project costs and performance.

Willingness to travel nationwide and stay away from home when required.

Ideally based within a sensible travelling distance of Birmingham / the Midlands, due to the volume of upcoming work in the region.

Ability to work independently and take full ownership of project delivery.

    What's on Offer?

Secured workload through the remainder of 2026.

Initial £500k retail fit-out for a global sports brand in Birmingham, starting 28th September.

Strong pipeline of further work across Birmingham and the wider Midlands.

Additional projects in Scotland and Reading over the next 4–5 months.

Travel and accommodation expenses covered where required.

Opportunity for ongoing freelance work with an established fit-out contractor.

    Interviews taking place next week.

Please apply with an up-to-date CV and Breeze Mitchell will be in touch as soon as possible.
