How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Senior Structural Engineer

    Locations: Bristol, United Kingdom
    Working Pattern: Hybrid
    Sector: Industry & Infrastructure

    The Opportunity

Are you an experienced Senior Structural Engineer looking for a role where you can take ownership of projects, develop your technical expertise and work alongside talented engineers on a genuinely diverse range of projects?

We are currently recruiting for Senior Structural Engineers to join a growing Industry & Infrastructure team within a leading international engineering and consultancy organisation.

The team delivers technically challenging projects across a broad range of sectors, including rail, aviation, energy, manufacturing, data centres and other critical infrastructure.

This variety means you'll have the opportunity to work across different sectors and project types rather than being restricted to one particular market.

You'll be involved throughout the project lifecycle, from early feasibility and concept development through to detailed design and construction, working alongside structural, civil, MEP, environmental and other specialist disciplines.

    The Role

As a Senior Structural Engineer, you will take responsibility for delivering structural engineering solutions across a range of projects, while developing your client-facing, technical and leadership skills.

    Your responsibilities will include:

Taking responsibility for the delivery of structural engineering design on projects appropriate to your experience.

Developing structural concepts and practical design solutions across a range of materials and building types.

Applying sound engineering judgement to solve complex technical problems.

Designing structures using steel, concrete and/or timber.

Liaising with clients, architects, contractors and other members of the design team.

Taking ownership of your work and contributing to successful project delivery.

Supporting, mentoring and developing less experienced engineers and technicians.

Contributing to innovative, efficient and sustainable structural design solutions.

Considering opportunities to reduce embodied carbon and make better use of existing assets.

Working collaboratively with colleagues across the UK and, where appropriate, international teams.

Supporting the continued development and growth of the wider structural engineering capability.

    About You

We're looking for a technically capable and commercially aware Structural Engineer who enjoys solving problems and working collaboratively with others.

    You'll ideally have:

Chartered status with IStructE, ICE or an international equivalent.

Professional experience working as a Structural Engineer within a consultancy or similar engineering environment.

Strong experience in structural design using steel, concrete and/or timber.

A sound understanding of building construction and structural engineering principles.

Experience working on complex or technically challenging projects.

Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain engineering principles clearly to clients and other project stakeholders.

The confidence to take ownership of your work and project responsibilities.

Experience supporting or mentoring junior engineers and technicians.

A collaborative approach and an interest in multidisciplinary working.

A genuine curiosity about engineering and a desire to find better, more efficient solutions.

An interest in sustainable engineering and reducing the environmental impact of projects.

Experience in one or more of the following sectors would be advantageous:

    Rail

    Aviation

    Energy

    Manufacturing

    Data Centres

    Critical Infrastructure

Experience across multiple sectors would be particularly beneficial.

    Career Development

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Structural Engineer who wants to continue progressing technically while taking increasing responsibility for projects and clients.

You'll have access to experienced technical specialists and a supportive engineering environment, with opportunities to:

    Take increasing ownership of projects.

Develop your client and stakeholder management skills.

Broaden your technical experience across different sectors.

Work alongside specialists from multiple engineering disciplines.

    Support and mentor developing engineers.

Contribute to innovative and sustainable engineering solutions.

Develop your career within a growing international organisation.

    What's on Offer?

You'll be joining a collaborative engineering environment where technical excellence, professional development and sustainable design are genuinely valued.

    The role offers:

A diverse portfolio of UK and international projects.

Exposure to multiple sectors and technically challenging work.

Strong opportunities for professional and technical development.

Support from experienced engineers and technical specialists.

    A multidisciplinary working environment.

Opportunities for increased project and client responsibility.

    Hybrid and flexible working arrangements.

    Long-term career progression opportunities.

    Location

    Bristol + Various Locations

Hybrid working is supported, with the exact arrangements dependent on the team, project and location.

If you're a Chartered Structural Engineer looking for your next step and want to work on interesting, technically challenging projects alongside great people, we'd be keen to hear from you.

We recognise that candidates don't always meet every requirement listed. If you have strong structural engineering experience and the role sounds like the right fit for your career, we would still encourage you to apply.

Calibre Search promote equality in the workplace and we welcome applications from all suitably skilled or qualified candidates regardless of their sex, race, disability, religion/beliefs, sexual orientation or age. We act as both an employment agency and employment business
