How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Carmichael UK is recruiting for an experienced Section Engineer (Structures) to join a major Tier 1 contractor delivering a significant highways infrastructure scheme in Gloucestershire.

    This is an excellent opportunity to work on a complex civil engineering project involving a range of highway structures, collaborating with construction, commercial and design teams to deliver works safely, on programme and to the highest quality standards.

    The Role

    As Section Engineer, you will take responsibility for the planning and delivery of structural elements across the project, ensuring works are completed in accordance with design specifications, programme requirements and quality standards.

    Key responsibilities will include:

    Managing and coordinating structures packages on site

    Planning and overseeing construction activities

    Leading Site Engineers and subcontractors within your section

    Reviewing drawings, specifications and technical documentation

    Producing and managing ITPs, permits and quality records

    Raising and resolving technical queries and design issues

    Monitoring progress against programme targets

    Ensuring works are delivered safely and in compliance with project procedures

    Supporting temporary works coordination and implementation

    Managing client and stakeholder interfaces where required

    Requirements

    Experience working as a Section Engineer on major civil engineering or highways projects

    Strong background delivering highway structures, including bridges, retaining walls, RC structures, culverts or associated infrastructure

    Proven experience with setting out, QA, ITPs and construction documentation

    Ability to coordinate subcontractors and engineering teams

    Strong understanding of highways specifications and construction methodologies

    HNC/HND or Degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline

    CSCS Card essential

    SMSTS preferred
