How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Contracts Manager – Highways / Civil Engineering

    Location: Pontefract, West Yorkshire
    Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience

    The Role

    We are currently recruiting for an experienced Contracts Manager to join a leading highways and civil engineering contractor, working from their Pontefract office and delivering projects through a major SDF framework.

    The successful candidate will take responsibility for the successful delivery of multiple highways and civil engineering schemes, managing projects from pre-construction through to completion while ensuring they are delivered safely, on programme, to specification and within budget.

    Key Responsibilities

    * Overall responsibility for the successful delivery of allocated projects.

    * Manage multiple highways/civils projects concurrently.

    * Lead and manage Project Managers, Site Managers, Engineers and Supervisors.

    * Manage subcontractors, suppliers and site resources.

    * Monitor programme, progress, costs, risks and commercial performance.

    * Work closely with the commercial team to manage budgets, forecasts and project performance.

    * Manage NEC contracts, including Early Warnings and Compensation Events.

    * Maintain strong relationships with clients and key stakeholders.

    * Ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental and quality requirements.

    * Support pre-construction, planning and mobilisation activities.

    * Identify and manage project risks and opportunities.

    * Attend client and project meetings and provide regular progress reporting.

    * Ensure projects are delivered in accordance with relevant highways standards and contractual requirements.

    Minimum Requirements

    * Previous experience as a Contracts Manager or Senior Project Manager within highways or civil engineering.

    * Proven experience managing multiple projects / schemes.

    * Strong experience delivering highways, infrastructure or other relevant civil engineering projects.

    * Experience working under NEC contracts, ideally NEC4.

    * Strong commercial, programme and risk-management experience.

    * Experience managing project teams, subcontractors and supply chains.

    * Strong client and stakeholder management skills.

    * Experience working in a live highway / infrastructure environment would be highly advantageous.

    * 5+ years' relevant experience in a senior project delivery position.

    Qualifications

    * HNC/HND/Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction or a related discipline – desirable.

    * SMSTS – essential.

    * CSCS – essential.

    * NEC4 training/qualification – desirable.

    * Temporary Works / relevant highways qualifications – desirable.
