How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Buyer – Fareham

Up to £45,000 + Excellent Benefits

Are you an experienced Buyer with a background in manufacturing or engineering?

Are you confident managing suppliers, negotiating costs and ensuring materials are delivered on time, to specification and at the right price?

If so, this could be an excellent opportunity to join a well-established manufacturing business in Fareham, where you’ll play a key role in supporting production and driving supplier and procurement performance.

    The Role

As Buyer, you’ll take ownership of purchasing activity across materials, components and services, working closely with suppliers and internal teams to keep production running efficiently.

You’ll be responsible for getting the best possible cost, quality and delivery performance from the supply base, while identifying opportunities to improve processes and reduce costs.

This is a hands-on role where your commercial judgement, supplier management skills and ability to solve problems will have a direct impact on the business.

    Key Responsibilities

Source and purchase materials, components and services

Manage supplier relationships and drive performance across cost, quality and delivery

Negotiate pricing, terms and lead times

Monitor supplier performance and proactively address issues

Raise and manage purchase orders through ERP systems

Work closely with Production, Planning and Engineering

Ensure materials are available to meet production requirements

Identify opportunities for cost reduction and process improvement

Monitor lead times, stock levels and purchasing requirements

Resolve supply issues quickly and minimise disruption to production

Support continuous improvement across procurement and supply chain

Ensure purchasing activity follows company procedures and requirements

    What We’re Looking For

We’re looking for an experienced Buyer who understands the demands of a manufacturing environment and can confidently manage suppliers and competing priorities.

    You’ll ideally have:

Previous experience in a Buyer or Procurement role within manufacturing or engineering

Strong knowledge of procurement and supply chain processes

Experience using ERP / MRP systems

Strong negotiation and supplier management skills

    Good commercial awareness

    Excellent communication and organisational skills

The ability to manage multiple priorities and work to tight deadlines

    A proactive approach to problem-solving

Experience within a technical, regulated or complex manufacturing environment would be highly advantageous.

Knowledge of MRP, inventory planning, cost reduction or continuous improvement would also be beneficial.

    About You

You’re commercially minded, organised and proactive, with the confidence to take ownership and make decisions.

You know how to build strong supplier relationships, but you’re also comfortable challenging suppliers when performance isn’t where it needs to be.

You’re someone who spots problems early, finds solutions and gets things done.

    What’s on Offer?

    Up to £45,000 per annum

5 weeks’ holiday + bank holidays

    Company pension scheme

    Life cover

    Employee Assistance Programme

Opportunity to join an established and successful manufacturing business

    Interested?

If you’re an experienced Buyer looking for your next opportunity within a manufacturing or engineering environment, we’d love to hear from you.

Apply today or contact us for a confidential discussion about the role.
