Role Purpose
The UAS Avionics Production Technician assembles, installs, tests, maintains and repairs the electronic and avionics systems used in unmanned aircraft, payloads and associated ground support equipment. Working within a multidisciplinary production operations team, the role supports production system integration and pre-delivery preparation of equipment to a serviceable condition. The postholder will work closely with engineers, operators, customers and suppliers to deliver safe, reliable and compliant UASs.
Key Responsibilities
* Assemble, install and integrate avionics, electrical systems, electronic Line Replaceable Units, sensors, payloads and wiring harnesses.
* Configure and test flight controllers, autopilots, navigation equipment, telemetry, command-and-control links, data acquisition systems and ground control stations.
* Conduct scheduled and unscheduled inspections, functional tests, fault diagnosis, repair and replacement of electronic components and assemblies.
* Load approved firmware and software, manage configuration status and verify system operation following updates.
* Interpret wiring diagrams, schematics, engineering drawings, technical instructions and maintenance data.
* Use test equipment including digital multi-meters, oscilloscopes, power supplies, RF test equipment and specialist diagnostic tools.
* Analyse flight and ground-test data to identify intermittent faults, performance issues and systemic causes.
* Support payload integration, aircraft rigging, pre-delivery checks.
* Produce accurate build, inspection, test, maintenance, defect and configuration records.
* Identify hazards, report occurrences and contribute to risk assessments, investigations and corrective actions.
* Liaise effectively with engineers, operators, customers and suppliers, and provide practical guidance to less-experienced technicians when authorised.
Essential Qualifications and Experience
* Level 3 Diploma technical qualification, apprenticeship or equivalent practical experience in avionics, electronics, electrical engineering, aerospace engineering, robotics or a related discipline.
* Practical experience of assembling, inspecting, testing, troubleshooting and repairing electrical or electronic systems.
* Competence in cable manufacture, crimping, connector assembly, continuity and insulation testing, and high-quality soldering.
* Ability to read and apply technical drawings, wiring schedules, schematics and maintenance instructions.
* Experience using electronic test equipment and diagnostic software safely and methodically.
* Strong understanding of electrical safety, electrostatic discharge controls, tool control, foreign object prevention and safe systems of work.
* Clear written and verbal communication, sound judgement and disciplined attention to detail.
* Ability to work independently within delegated authority and collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
* Competence with standard Windows applications, electronic records and maintenance or configuration-management systems.
* Eligibility to obtain and retain any security clearance required for assigned projects
