How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Senior Town Planner
    Location: Newcastle Upon Tyne - 3 days per week in the office
    Salary: £35,000 - £45,000 + benefits
    Working pattern: Flexible hybrid working
    Carrington West are pleased to be working with working with a well-established and growing planning consultancy that is looking to appoint an experienced Senior Town Planner to join their close-knit planning team.
    This is an excellent opportunity for a planner looking to take the next step in their career, gain exposure to a diverse range of projects and work alongside an experienced team in a genuinely flexible and supportive environment.
    The Role
    You'll be joining a planning team of eight, led by an experienced planning professional, comprising Associates, a Senior Planner, Planners and Assistant Planners.
    The team works across a varied portfolio, with particular experience in:
    ·Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA)
    ·Major planning applications
    ·Large-scale infrastructure projects
    ·Strategic development
    ·Complex planning matters
    As a Senior Town Planner, you'll have the opportunity to take ownership of your own projects while working collaboratively with colleagues across the wider team. You'll be involved in managing planning applications, advising clients and stakeholders, and contributing to the delivery of major and complex projects.
    About You
    We're looking for someone with:
    ·Previous experience working within town planning, ideally within a consultancy environment
    ·Strong knowledge of the UK planning system
    ·Experience managing or contributing to planning applications
    ·Ideally, exposure to major applications, EIA or infrastructure projects
    ·Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    ·The ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
    ·A proactive, commercially aware approach
    ·MRTPI or working towards chartership would be advantageous
    Most importantly, you'll be someone who enjoys working as part of a close-knit team and is keen to continue developing their career.
