How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Estimator

    Dunfermline | Permanent | Full-time

Build your commercial career with one of Scotland's most recognised brands.

Varied tenders, hands-on commercial exposure and clear opportunities to progress within a rapidly growing Commercial Team.

CR Smith is one of the UK's largest home improvement companies, with a highly recognisable brand synonymous with quality and service. Rated Excellent on Trustpilot, with more than 6,000 reviews, and voted best in the UK within our sector by Which?, the customer experience is at the heart of everything we do.

As our work across the New Build, Social Housing and Commercial sectors continues to grow, we are looking for an engaged and motivated Estimator to join our expanding Commercial Team at our Head Office in Dunfermline.

Reporting to the Estimating Manager, you will work on a varied portfolio of tenders for major housebuilders, local authorities and commercial clients across Scotland and Northern England. You will gain valuable exposure to tendering, sales support and pre-contract mobilisation, with increasing responsibility as your skills develop.

An Excellent Package With Real Career Progression

We offer much more than a competitive salary. You will receive a strong overall package designed to support your wellbeing, professional development and long-term career progression, including:

    ✓ Highly competitive salary

✓ 31 days paid annual leave

    ✓ Company pension contributions

    ✓ Dedicated in-office GP access

✓ Subsidised freshly cooked meals at our staff bistro

    ✓ Structured induction and mentoring

    ✓ Funded professional development opportunities

    ✓ Clear career progression

✓ Exposure to varied, high-value tenders

✓ Support from experienced commercial leaders

✓ Discounts on the Lorimer range of windows & doors

✓ Long-term stability with an established brand

    The Role

This is more than a traditional estimating role. You will be supported to build commercial responsibility while gaining direct exposure to project management, clients, operational teams and the supply chain.

    * Prepare competitive tenders across New Build, Social Housing and Commercial projects.

    * Review specifications and contract requirements to develop compliant solutions.

    * Price products, building works and services using specialist software and other estimating methods.

    * Work with the supply chain to secure accurate and competitive costings.

    * Complete tender submissions and package pre-start information for manufacturing and operations.

    * Analyse tender feedback and help improve estimating systems and processes.

    About You

You will ideally have experience in Estimating, Procurement, Quantity Surveying or a related discipline, with some understanding of commercial contracts. Applications are also welcomed from candidates with strong technical or financial skills who can demonstrate the potential and motivation to develop.

    * Strong written, verbal, numerical and analytical skills.

    * Commercial awareness and excellent attention to detail.

    * The ability to manage multiple tenders and priorities effectively.

    * Confidence using Microsoft Office applications and a willingness to learn.

Previous estimating or construction experience would be beneficial, but extensive product knowledge is not essential. Full training will be provided on CR Smith products, services, systems and specialist specification software.

    Why CR Smith?

You will join an established business with ambitious growth plans and a growing pipeline of work. From day one, you will receive practical experience, ongoing mentoring and increasing responsibility, giving you a clear platform to build a successful long-term career in estimating and commercial management.

If you are motivated to learn, progress and make a genuine impact, we would like to hear from you
