How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    The Opportunity

    As a Secondary Cover Supervisor, you will help schools maintain a consistent learning environment when teachers are unavailable.

    You will supervise classes across a range of subjects and year groups, using lesson plans and resources prepared by the school. Your role will be to ensure students understand the tasks set, remain focused and follow the school's behaviour expectations.

    This position would suit someone who is dependable, confident and organised, with strong classroom management skills and the ability to adapt to different settings.

    You will need to be comfortable taking responsibility for a classroom, communicating clearly with students and responding appropriately to behaviour.

    Day-to-day supply can provide valuable experience across a variety of secondary schools while giving you greater flexibility over when you work. It can also be an excellent opportunity to develop your skills and build your experience within education.

    Your Responsibilities

    As a Secondary Cover Supervisor, you may be responsible for:

    Supervising secondary school classes when the regular teacher is unavailable.
    Delivering lessons using materials and instructions provided by teaching staff.
    Communicating tasks and expectations clearly to students.
    Maintaining positive behaviour and high classroom standards.
    Creating a calm, safe and purposeful learning environment.
    Monitoring student engagement and ensuring students complete the work provided.
    Offering appropriate support to students throughout the lesson.
    Working effectively with teachers, support staff and school leaders.
    Raising any significant behaviour, safeguarding or welfare concerns with the appropriate member of staff.
    Following school policies, safeguarding procedures and professional expectations.
    Adjusting quickly to different subjects, year groups and school environments.
