Project Description
The £80 million upgrade of Slough Sewage Treatment Works for Thames Water will be carried out by Ferrovial Construction and Cadagua, working together as a joint venture. This project aims to improve the resilience and sustainability of Slough STW, ensuring it meets tougher Environment Agency standards and achieves better environmental performance. Improvements include expanded treatment capacity, advanced systems for removing ammonia and phosphorus, upgraded storm-flow management, and robust new power infrastructure. The partnership combines Ferrovial Construction’s expertise in UK infrastructure projects with Cadagua’s broad experience in international water treatment.
The Role
Ferrovial Construction UK is looking for an HSW Manager to join the project as part of the Senior Leadership Team. The role will support major programmes and act as a key point of contact for both the client and senior management.
Role summary
* Supervising and monitoring construction activities in line with HSW legislation, procedures and standards
* Leading the HSW function on complex projects, with a forward-looking approach over the next 2–3 years
* Extensive health and safety experience in complex, high-risk construction or civil engineering projects
* Mentoring and supporting junior members of the HSW team
* Supporting the adoption of innovation and best practice with the procurement and cost estimation teams
* Communicating Ferrovial objectives and changes in legislation to project management and wider teams
* Work closely with project functions and the central HSQE & Sustainability Department to drive positive HSW outcomes while meeting and exceeding client requirements
* Supporting the bidding and tendering functions where required
Qualifications
* CSCS Level - Academically or Professionally Qualified Person
* ISO Lead Auditor
* NEBOSH Diploma or NVQ Level 6 in Occupational Health and Safety
* CertIOSH working towards CMIOSH
Skills and Experience
* Extensive experience in health, safety and wellbeing management within the construction industry
* Strong understanding of risk management and the practical application of risk-based decision-making
* Proven leadership and people management skills, with experience developing, mentoring and leading high-performing teams
* Ability to act as a subject matter expert, providing guidance and support to project teams and stakeholders
* Strong problem-solving skills, with a proactive and adaptable approach to overcoming challenges
* Self-motivated and enthusiastic, with a commitment to continuous learning and professional development
* Ability to manage multiple priorities and perform effectively in a fast-paced environment
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including experience delivering presentations and facilitating workshops
* Strong IT skills, including the use of Microsoft Office and relevant health and safety management systems
* Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to build effective working relationships across project teams, clients and external stakeholders
