How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

We have an outstanding opportunity with an established and highly respected specialist steel building design and supply company with around 20 years of trading history and a strong reputation within the design and construction sector. The business specialises in the design and delivery of cold rolled and light gauge steel frame buildings across a diverse range of sectors, and is now looking to appoint an experienced Associate Structural Engineer to join its Cinderford office.
This is an opportunity for an ambitious senior engineer to take a significant step forward in their career. You will join an experienced technical team working on a varied portfolio of bespoke steel building projects, with involvement from initial design and engineering through to delivery. More importantly, there is genuine long-term scope for directorship and the opportunity to develop and ultimately lead your own business unit. This role would suit someone who is looking for more than technical progression and wants the opportunity to influence the direction and growth of a specialist business.
The successful candidate will be a Chartered Structural Engineer, ideally with IStructE or ICE, although candidates who are very close to achieving Chartership will also be considered. You will need strong structural design experience, ideally with exposure to cold rolled/light gauge steel structures, together with the commercial awareness, leadership skills and ambition required to progress into a senior management position.
    What’s On Offer
    * Genuine route to Directorship, with the potential to take ownership of your own business unit as the company continues to grow.
    * The opportunity to play a key role in shaping the future direction of a specialist and established engineering business.
    * A senior position with significant autonomy and responsibility, rather than being another layer within a large corporate structure.
    * Exposure to a varied portfolio of bespoke commercial, industrial, agricultural, equestrian and residential steel building projects.
    * The opportunity to develop your leadership, commercial and business-development skills alongside your technical expertise.
    * The chance to work within a business with a strong specialist reputation and a long-term, entrepreneurial outlook.
    * A role based in Cinderford, within an experienced team where your technical input and ideas can have a direct impact on projects and the wider business.
    * Genuine hybrid policy and flexible approach to working.
    What You Need To Succeed
    * Strong structural engineering experience, with a background in steel design essential.
    * Ideally, experience with cold rolled steel/light gauge steel framing systems and an understanding of their design principles.
    * The ability to take ownership of projects from initial concept through to detailed design and delivery.
    * Strong technical design and engineering judgement, with the ability to review and challenge designs where appropriate.
    * Experience of leading or mentoring engineers and the confidence to take on increasing responsibility.
    * Strong communication and client-facing skills, with the ability to build effective relationships with clients, contractors and other project stakeholders.
    * Commercial awareness and genuine ambition to progress towards senior management and ultimately Directorship.
    * Chartered Structural Engineer status with IStructE or ICE, or very close to achieving Chartership.
    * A strong academic background with a BEng or MEng in Civil or Structural Engineering
