How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    SEN Teaching Assistant

Academics are working with a number of specialist schools across Canterbury, and we are looking for enthusiastic and dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join our network of schools.

Our client schools support pupils with a wide range of needs, including Autism (ASC), Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH), ADHD, communication and interaction needs, and complex learning needs. This means there are opportunities to work in a variety of settings and gain valuable experience across different areas of SEN.

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will play an important role in helping pupils access their education and reach their potential. You may provide 1:1 support, work with small groups or support pupils within the wider classroom, working closely with teachers and other professionals to provide the right level of support for each individual.

We are looking for people who are patient, resilient and adaptable, with the ability to build positive and trusting relationships with children and young people. Previous SEN experience is highly desirable, but it isn't essential. We would also love to hear from candidates with backgrounds in education, youth work, care, sports coaching, mentoring or support work who are looking to develop their career within SEN.

In return, you will have the opportunity to gain valuable experience within specialist education, develop your understanding of different SEN needs and make a genuine difference to the lives of the pupils you support.

    What we're looking for:

Experience working with children or young people is desirable
SEN experience is advantageous, but not essential
A patient, calm and supportive approach
    Strong communication and relationship-building skills
Confidence working as part of a wider school team
A genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs
An enhanced DBS, or willingness to obtain oneThe role:

    SEN Teaching Assistant
    Canterbury
    Full-time and part-time opportunities available
Opportunities across a range of specialist SEN schools
    Immediate and September starts available
Competitive daily rates, depending on experienceIf you're looking for a role where no two days are the same and you can make a real difference to a young person's education and development, we'd love to hear from you.

Apply today or contact Academics Canterbury to find out more about our current SEN Teaching Assistant opportunities.
