How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Cogent Skill has an excellent opportunity to plan and deliver effective teaching and learning against apprenticeship standards, to a range of employed, individual or groups of apprentices, through live online tutor led delivery.


    The postholder will deliver engaging, inclusive and effective learning to individual apprentices and groups through live online tutor-led sessions, supporting apprentices to develop the mathematical, scientific and technical knowledge required to succeed within their apprenticeship and occupational role.


    The role will work across multiple apprenticeship programmes and contribute to the wider development of Cogent's curriculum, teaching resources and learning experience.

    Mathematics and Process Science Tutor

    Key Accountabilities


    • Plan and deliver high-quality learning in Mathematics, Process Science and Physics, in line with the requirements of relevant apprenticeship standards, knowledge modules, units and qualifications.
    • Plan, prepare and deliver engaging lessons that align with qualification specifications, schemes of work and awarding body requirements.
    • Develop high-quality learning resources and teaching materials that support effective learning, differentiation and learner success.
    • Maintain and continuously improve existing teaching resources while identifying opportunities to develop new and innovative materials.
    • Utilise subject expertise to contribute to curriculum design and development, embedding mathematics, English, knowledge, skills and behaviours (KSBs) throughout the curriculum.
    • Promote Mathematics, Process Science and Physics across apprenticeship programmes and standalone training provision.
    • Utilise Cogent's Learning Management Systems (LMS) to create an engaging, effective and accessible learning environment.
    • Communicate effectively and professionally with learners, employers, colleagues and other stakeholders.
    • Play an active role within the delivery team, contributing to workshops, enrichment activities, competitions, residentials and other curriculum enhancement opportunities.
    • Contribute to the wider industrial science curriculum, supporting a range of delivery methods including classroom, workshop, online and blended learning.
    • Participate in standardisation activities and support the wider tutor team through one-to-one, group, online and face-to-face delivery.
    • Develop schemes of work, lesson plans, learning resources, coursework and individual learning plans that meet learner needs and promote differentiation.
    • Encourage learner retention, attendance and timely achievement through effective planning, support and intervention.
    • Build positive relationships with learners, including those returning to education after an extended period, using highly effective communication and coaching skills.
    • Carry out invigilation and assessment activities in accordance with awarding organisation and internal quality assurance requirements.
    • Support learners with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and Additional Learning Support (ALS) requirements to achieve their apprenticeship goals.
    • Work within ESFA guidance and Ofsted expectations to maintain consistently high standards of teaching, learning and assessment.
    • Deliver engaging and effective lessons to learners of all ages using both face-to-face and digital delivery methods.
    • Promote safeguarding, Prevent and learner welfare at all times, adhering to Cogent's safeguarding policies and procedures to maintain a safe learning environment for all.


    Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)


    • Achieve consistently high learner outcomes, including strong achievement rates, timely completion and excellent results in external assessments and examinations.
    • Plan and deliver outstanding teaching, learning and assessment that positively impacts learner progress, confidence and achievement.
    • Develop and maintain high-quality learning materials and teaching resources that align with approved schemes of work, awarding body requirements and curriculum standards.
    • Ensure all teaching, learning, assessment and learner interactions consistently meet Cogent Tutor Standards, quality expectations and organisational values.
    • Provide timely, accurate and constructive feedback that supports learner progress, improves work quality and encourages on-time submissions.
    • Evaluate teaching practice using learner, employer and quality feedback to drive continuous improvement.
    • Contribute to internal quality assurance and standardisation activities to ensure consistent, fair and compliant assessment practices.
    • Design, develop and continuously improve apprenticeship modules and programmes for classroom, online and blended delivery.
    • Support curriculum innovation through the development of engaging digital learning resources and learning activities.


    Knowledge, Skills and Qualifications


    Essential

    • A recognised teaching qualification at Level 3 or above (or a willingness to work towards one).
    • Experience preparing learners for external examinations, working with awarding organisations and achieving consistently high learner outcomes.
    • Experience of delivering Mathematics and Process Science, with a good understanding of Physics to support apprenticeship and technical education programmes.
    • Inspirational teaching and learning practitioner with experience of delivering STEM-based education to apprentices or vocational learners.
    • Ability to develop strong, positive relationships with learners and actively engage them in both classroom and online learning environments.
    • Experience of developing high-quality teaching resources, schemes of work and learning materials.
    • Confident user of IT for administration and lesson delivery, including a high level of competence using Microsoft Teams and virtual learning environments.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, employers, learners and support staff.
    • Well organised, self-motivated and committed to continuous professional development.
    • Enhanced DBS check.


    Desirable

    • A Level 5 (or above) qualification in a relevant STEM subject and/or a degree.
    • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
    • Experience of delivering or supporting BTEC qualifications.
    • Knowledge and understanding of Apprenticeship Standards, EPA requirements and quality frameworks including Ofsted, ESFA and ISO.
    • Experience of electronic learner tracking and monitoring systems such as Bud or Smart Assessor.
    • Experience of curriculum design, resource development and digital learning content creation.
    • Knowledge of quality assurance and standardisation processes within further education or apprenticeship delivery.
