How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Water Network Analysis Engineer
    Andover

    This is a particularly good opportunity for a Water Engineer who likes the technical side of hydraulic analysis but doesn't want to spend every day sitting behind a screen.

    A specialist engineering Consultancy with more than 50 years' experience in hydraulic and fluid flow analysis is opening a new office in the Andover area, driven by a growing workload and continued demand for its expertise and they are now looking for a Water Network Analysis Engineer to become part of that new operation.

    Rather than joining an established office where your role is already defined, you'll be getting involved at an exciting stage of the company's growth. There is a substantial pipeline of work already in place, experienced Engineers around the wider business to support you, and a genuine opportunity to establish yourself as the Andover team develops.

    What will you actually be doing?
    The position is roughly split 60% technical analysis and 40% site-based investigative work, giving you a good mixture of modelling, problem-solving and practical engineering.
    On the analysis side, you'll work on live water and pipeline systems, carrying out steady-state and transient hydraulic studies, building and calibrating mathematical models and investigating how networks are actually performing.
    You'll use information gathered from site surveys alongside GIS, LIDAR and recorded network data to run simulations, investigate problems and test different scenarios.
    The interesting part is that the work doesn't disappear into a model and sit there.
    You'll also get out onto site, working with pipeline networks and pumping stations to install pressure and flow monitoring equipment, collect real-world data and investigate abnormal system behaviour. Full training on the specialist monitoring equipment and associated health and safety requirements will be provided.
    You then take that information back into the analysis, work out what is happening and help develop the solution.

    Projects with a visible outcome
    A lot of these investigations are relatively fast-moving, typically running over around 6-8 weeks, so you get to see the outcome of your work rather than spending years working on one long-term modelling programme.
    The findings can have a significant impact on client investment decisions. Your analysis could identify an alternative solution that avoids unnecessary expenditure, uncover the cause of a network issue or demonstrate where major infrastructure investment genuinely is required.
    Recommendations can ultimately influence multi-million-pound decisions, so there is a tangible link between the engineering you carry out and what happens next.
    You'll also be involved in producing technical reports, method statements, risk assessments and engineering recommendations, with the opportunity for client contact as your experience develops.

    Who are they looking for?
    You'll need to be numerically strong and comfortable analysing data and solving engineering problems.
    Previous experience within water network analysis, hydraulic modelling, surge/transient analysis or a similar area would be particularly useful, as would experience with hydraulic analysis software and technical reporting.
    A numerical degree is essential. Water industry experience is desirable, but they are happy to provide specialist technical training where required.
    You'll also need a full UK driving licence, as the position involves regular site work and travel. Site visits are typically carried out alongside another member of the team.
