How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Civil Engineering | Water & Wastewater | Infrastructure | Civil 3D | MEICA | AMP Projects

Want to See Your Designs Make a Real-World Impact?

Join a growing multidisciplinary engineering business where your civil designs won't simply sit on a drawing board. They'll help shape and enable critical water and wastewater infrastructure projects across the UK.

We're looking for a proactive and technically strong Civil Design Engineer to join CHG Electrical, supporting the design and delivery of civil engineering solutions across clean and dirty water treatment sites.

Working alongside mechanical, electrical and wider engineering specialists, you'll develop everything from below-ground structures and foundations to site layouts, ducting, chambers and temporary works, ensuring designs are practical, buildable and ready for successful delivery.

If you've built your civil design experience within water, utilities or infrastructure and want greater project exposure, collaboration and progression, we'd love to talk.

    Who We Are

Founded in Sheffield in 2004, CHG Electrical has more than two decades of engineering heritage. Built on strong electrical engineering foundations, the business has evolved into a multidisciplinary engineering partner delivering complex projects across water utilities, rail, steel and manufacturing.

Today, our capabilities span MEICA, EICAT, civil engineering, control-panel design and manufacture, automation, software and digital transformation. We support projects from initial design through installation and commissioning to long-term maintenance, combining practical, hands-on engineering experience with modern technology and intelligent thinking.

Throughout that evolution, the principles behind CHG have remained consistent: technical excellence, exceptional quality, safe delivery and trusted long-term relationships.

It's this proven heritage, combined with our ambition to keep innovating, that enables us to deliver reliable, future-ready solutions for some of the UK's most important infrastructure.

    The Opportunity

This is an opportunity to play an important role within CHG's growing design capability, developing civil engineering solutions that enable the successful construction and installation of MEICA equipment across water and wastewater infrastructure.

You'll work across the project lifecycle, developing detailed designs and calculations, supporting constructability and risk reviews and working collaboratively with internal engineering teams, external consultants, suppliers and site teams.

The role goes beyond producing drawings.

You'll consider how your designs will actually be constructed, how they integrate with mechanical and electrical systems and how they can deliver safe, sustainable and cost-effective performance throughout the asset lifecycle.

You'll also have the opportunity to support high-profile AMP and utility infrastructure schemes while continuing to develop your technical expertise within a growing multidisciplinary engineering team.

    Where You'll Make an Impact

    Design Practical Civil Engineering Solutions

    • Prepare civil engineering designs, drawings and calculations for below-ground structures, foundations, ducting, chambers and temporary works.
    • Develop site layouts, access routes and enabling works to support mobilisation and project delivery.
    • Interpret topographical, geotechnical and structural information to inform effective design solutions.

    Bring Engineering Disciplines Together

    • Coordinate with mechanical, electrical and wider project teams to ensure civil designs integrate effectively with MEICA requirements.
    • Work with external consultants, subcontractors and suppliers to review and approve civil design proposals.
    • Ensure designs remain practical, buildable and aligned with the wider project scope.

    Design for Safe, Compliant Delivery

    • Ensure designs meet relevant standards, specifications and water company requirements.
    • Participate in HAZOPs, CDM risk assessments and constructability reviews.
    • Contribute to design risk registers and ensure temporary and permanent works requirements are properly considered.

    Support Projects Through Construction

    • Provide technical support to site teams throughout construction.
    • Respond to technical queries and RFIs, helping resolve design challenges efficiently.
    • Contribute to O&M manuals, as-built information and wider project documentation.

    Think Beyond the Immediate Build

    • Develop sustainable and cost-effective engineering solutions.
    • Consider whole-life asset performance when making design decisions.
    • Help identify opportunities to improve buildability, efficiency and long-term infrastructure performance.

    About You

You'll be an experienced Civil Design Engineer who understands that successful design is about more than technical accuracy. It needs to work safely, practically and efficiently once it reaches site.

You'll ideally have developed your experience within water, wastewater, utilities or infrastructure, giving you a good understanding of the standards, constraints and multidisciplinary coordination involved in complex engineering projects.

You'll be comfortable working independently on your own designs while collaborating closely with engineers, consultants and delivery teams to solve problems and keep projects moving.

    You'll Bring:

    • A degree, HNC or HND in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
    • Around 3-5+ years' civil design experience within utilities, infrastructure or water-related projects.
    • Experience producing civil engineering drawings, designs and calculations.
    • Proficiency with AutoCAD, Civil 3D and MicroDrainage or equivalent design software.
    • Familiarity with WIMES, Sewerage Sector Guidance and Building Regulations.
    • A sound understanding of CDM regulations and temporary and permanent works requirements.
    • The ability to interpret topographical, geotechnical and structural data.
    • Strong understanding of buildability and multidisciplinary design coordination.
    • Good technical writing and communication skills.
    • A collaborative, practical approach to solving engineering challenges.
    • Full UK driving licence.

    Why CHG Electrical?

You'll be joining an established engineering business that's continuing to broaden its capabilities and invest in its multidisciplinary engineering team.

Rather than operating within an isolated civil design function, you'll work alongside electrical, mechanical, ICA and project delivery specialists, giving you exposure to how complete infrastructure solutions come together from design through to construction and commissioning.

You'll also have the opportunity to contribute to significant AMP and utility infrastructure schemes while developing your expertise through mentoring, training and ongoing CPD.

    You'll Also Receive:

    • £45,000 - £50,000 salary.
    • Performance-related bonus.
    • Hybrid working options.
    • Flexible working hours.
    • 25 days' annual leave plus bank holidays.
    • Training, mentoring and CPD opportunities.
    • Exposure to high-profile AMP and utility infrastructure projects.
    • Clear progression pathways within a growing engineering team.

Ready to Design What Comes Next?

If you're a Civil Design Engineer with experience across water, utilities or infrastructure and you're ready to bring your technical expertise to a growing multidisciplinary engineering business, we'd love to hear from you.

Apply now and help design the next generation of water and infrastructure projects at CHG Electrical Ltd.
