How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

Are You a Chartered Civil or Structural Engineer Looking to Take the Next Step in Your Career?

Do You Enjoy Solving Complex Engineering Challenges, Leading Projects and Developing Other Engineers?

    Salary:
    Principal: £60,000 – £70,000
    Associate: £70,000 – £80,000
Location: Bristol, initially remote, moving to hybrid. Ad hoc travel to London.

I’m working exclusively with a well-established multidisciplinary engineering consultancy to appoint two senior engineers into their growing Infrastructure Engineering team in London.

The business has built an excellent reputation for delivering complex engineering and infrastructure projects across the UK, with expertise spanning structural engineering, civil engineering and infrastructure services across transport, rail, maritime and the built environment.

There are opportunities at both Principal Design Engineer and Associate level, offering the chance to join a close-knit team with a strong pipeline of frameworks and project work.

Both positions will suit technically strong Chartered Engineers who enjoy complex civil and structural engineering. The level of responsibility will vary depending on experience, with the Associate taking greater responsibility for team leadership, project governance, commercial performance, client relationships and work winning.

    The Opportunities:

    Principal Design Engineer | £60,000 – £68,000

This is a highly technical position for a Chartered Engineer who enjoys remaining hands-on with engineering and design while taking responsibility for project delivery and supporting the development of junior engineers.

You’ll undertake and review structural calculations and designs across a variety of structural forms and materials, working alongside experienced engineers on technically challenging infrastructure projects.

    Associate | £68,000 – £80,000

The Associate position combines technical engineering leadership with wider responsibility for projects, people, clients and the continued growth of the Infrastructure Engineering team.

You’ll provide technical oversight and assurance, review and approve designs, oversee project delivery and financial performance, manage resources and support the development of engineers, graduates and apprentices.

You’ll also play an important role in client development, bids and tenders, fee proposals, project governance and work winning.

    Essential Requirements

    For both opportunities:

    • Chartered Engineer with ICE or IStructE
    • Strong civil and/or structural engineering background
    • Experience delivering complex civil engineering or infrastructure projects
    • Excellent understanding of engineering standards and design principles
    • Strong structural design and engineering fundamentals
    • Experience supporting or mentoring junior engineers
    • Experience coordinating multidisciplinary design activities

For the Associate position, you should additionally have:

    • Circa 10+ years’ civil or structural engineering experience
    • Experience leading projects and managing engineering teams
    • Confidence reviewing and approving engineering designs
    • Strong understanding of Eurocodes and British Standards
    • Project financial management experience and strong commercial awareness
    • Experience contributing to bids, tenders, fee proposals or technical proposals
    • Strong working knowledge of CDM Regulations
    • Experience building and managing client relationships

    Desirable Experience

    • Rail infrastructure experience
    • Structural inspections and assessments
    • Experience across wider transport or maritime infrastructure
    • Temporary works and demolition design

    Projects

You’ll have the opportunity to work across a varied portfolio of infrastructure projects, including:

    • Structural design and assessment of bridges and complex structures
    • Station capacity upgrades and infrastructure improvement works
    • Retaining structures and enabling works
    • Depot extensions and portal frame structures
    • Footbridges, staircases and lift structures for accessibility schemes
    • Structural examinations and inspections of infrastructure assets
    • Major structural assessments, including trusses and historic structures
    • Temporary works and demolition design associated with infrastructure projects

Whether you’re an experienced Principal Engineer looking for a technically challenging position or an established senior engineer ready to take on Associate-level leadership responsibilities, I’d be keen to hear from you.
