How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Project Manager - Highways & Civil Engineering
    Location: Cambridge, with travel to project sites as required
    Salary: Up to £65,000, dependent on experience

    Take ownership of major National Highways and civil engineering projects
    Are you a Project Manager with National Highways experience looking for the opportunity to take ownership of complex highways and infrastructure schemes from pre-construction through to successful delivery?
    My client is looking for an experienced Project Manager to join its highways and infrastructure operation in Cambridge. You will be responsible for leading the safe, efficient and commercially successful delivery of highways and civil engineering projects, working closely with clients, operational teams and key stakeholders.
    You will be joining an established organisation delivering critical highway maintenance and infrastructure schemes across the UK, with a strong focus on safety, quality, collaboration and continuous improvement.
    Your role
    As Project Manager, you will take responsibility for the day-to-day management and successful delivery of highways and civil engineering projects, ensuring programme, commercial, quality and safety objectives are achieved.
    You will be:
    ·Leading highways and civil engineering projects from pre-construction through to completion.
    ·Managing site teams, subcontractors and suppliers to ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently and to programme.
    ·Working closely with National Highways representatives, clients and other key stakeholders.
    ·Monitoring programme performance, budgets, costs and commercial outcomes.
    ·Managing project risks and ensuring appropriate mitigation measures are implemented.
    ·Reviewing and managing health and safety documentation, including RAMS and Construction Phase Plans.
    ·Coordinating temporary works, quality assurance and project compliance requirements.
    ·Supporting procurement, subcontractor management and project planning activities.
    ·Providing technical and operational input during tendering and pre-construction stages.
    ·Ensuring projects comply with required health, safety, environmental and quality standards.
    ·Producing project updates and reporting on programme, commercial performance, risks and delivery.
    ·Supporting and developing members of the project team while helping to drive continuous improvement.
    What you will bring
    To be successful in this Project Manager position, you will ideally have:
    ·Previous experience delivering highways or civil engineering projects in a Project Manager or similar project leadership position.
    ·Previous National Highways project experience.
    ·A strong understanding of highways construction, maintenance or infrastructure delivery.
    ·Experience managing projects operating on high-speed road networks.
    ·Good knowledge of NEC contracts and commercial management principles.
    ·Experience managing programmes, budgets, subcontractors and multidisciplinary project teams.
    ·An HNC/HND in Civil Engineering or an equivalent relevant qualification.
    ·A valid CSCS Manager Card.
    ·SMSTS.
    ·Experience using MS Project or similar project planning software.
    ·A full UK Driving Licence.
    A Temporary Works Coordinator qualification, NRSWA accreditation or additional highways-related qualifications would also be beneficial.
    What you can expect
    You will receive a salary of up to £65,000, dependent on experience, alongside the opportunity to take responsibility for significant National Highways and civil engineering projects.
    You will have the autonomy to manage your projects, influence how schemes are delivered and work closely with experienced operational and commercial teams. You will also have opportunities to continue developing your technical, commercial and leadership capabilities as the business grows.
    The position is based in Cambridge, with travel to project and client locations required as part of the role.
